SONNY BONO BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Sonny Bono was born on February 16th, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan with the birth name Salvatore Philip Bono to parents, Jean and Santo. He was the youngest born of three children and he went to school at Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California but never graduated.
He first became involved in the entertainment industry working at Specialty Records where he recorded a song titled, "Things You Do to Me". Soon he was hired to work for Phil Spector in the early 1960's doing promotions. After recording a number of songs he became part of the duo, Sonny and Cher. He wrote and produced a number of songs such as, "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On". Most of his success was with his wife Cher, although he did have one song that hit the record charts as a solo artist, "Laugh at Me".
Soon he and Cher were making television appearances on a famous show titled, "The Sonny and Cher Show" (1971-1974). Even though their marriage ended in divorce soon after, they continued to work together with their final appearance being in 1987 on, "The Late Night with David Letterman".
As his career continued as a solo entertainer he made appearances on such series as, "Fantasy Island", "The Love Boat", "P.S. I Luv U" and his final television acting appearance was in, "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (1993).
He also appeared in a number of feature films such as, "Airplane II: The Sequel" (1982), "Hairspray" (1988) and a small cameo appearance in "First Kid' (1996).
After he chose to leave the entertainment industry he pursued a career in political becoming the mayor of Palm Springs, California and he was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as Congressman from the State of California.
Sonny Bono married four times throughout his life time. His first wife was Donna Rankin whom he wed in 1954 and they had one child together before they divorced in 1962. He then married a famous singer and a partner he performed with for many years, Cher and they were together from 1964 through 1975 and also had one child together. His third time to marry was Susie Coehlo in 1981 and they were together until 1984. He then married for a fourth time to Mary Bono in 1986 and they had two children together and were remained together until he passed away on January 5th, 1998 in South Lake Tahoe, California after suffering a skiing accident. Sonny Bono is interred at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California. He also admits that he had another son from an affair he had with Mimi Machu.
