SNUB POLLARD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Snub Pollard was born on November 9th, 1889 in Melbourne, Australia with the birth name Harold H. Fraser. His career in entertainment began as a vaudeville performer where he would tour all over the United States with his troupe. When the troupe separated in 1910 he decided to remain living in the United States and seek work in films.
He began working with Essenay Studio's in 1911 and also did some work with Keystone Kops. Soon, Hal Roach took notice of him and he was cast in a number of Lonesome Luke series shorts alongside, Harold Lloyd and Bebe Daniels.
This lead to Pollard earning quite a name for himself in the industry that he felt ready to go out on his own and perform solo. He worked on a variety of one and two reelers such as, "By the Sea" (1915) starring Charlie Chaplin, "It's a Gift" (1923) and created the character 'Lonesome Luke' which featured him in numerous silent films and he also maintained his love of live performing on the stage.
Pollard created his own production company, however by 1926 it closed down and he began to go back to working with other comedians. Some of his more well known roles were on, "Hollywood Cavalcade" (1939), "The Perils of Pauline" (1947) "The Tin Star" (1957) starring Henry Fonda, Anthony Perkins and Neville Brand and "Man of a Thousand Faces" (1957) starring James Cagney.
Over the course of his career he would add over 500 credits to his resume on shorts, silent films, talkies and a number of westerns, however mostly his roles were bit players appearing in such features as, "Cockeyed Cavaliers" (1934), "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) starring John Payne, Maureen O'Hara and a young Natalie Wood, "Pocketful of Miracles" (1961), "Twist Around the Clock" (1962) and his final film role in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" starring John Wayne, James Stewart, Lee Marvin, Veral Miles and Edmond O'Brien.
He did have one more role that helped re-boost his popularity, where he portrayed Pee Wee, the sidekick to westerns star Tex Ritter, however the majority of his roles after 1956 were all un-credited.
Snub Pollard married only once and he passed away from cancer on January 19th, 1962 in Burbank, California. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.
