Sigourney Weaver ACTOR


Sigourney Weaver was born on October 8th, 1949 in New York City, New York with the birth name Susan Alexandra Weaver, born to television producer, Sylvester L. Weaver Jr. and Elizabeth Inglis, a former actress.  She grew up in a very wealthy family and attended, Brearley Girls Academy briefly before moving numerous times to such places as San Francisco, New York and Connecticut. 

All during her schooling years, she had a hard time being accepted by the other children due to her height and always being the new girl in school.  She took an interest in acting from an early age and appeared in numerous school productions and later joined a summer stock company.  

After high school she lived in Israel briefly working on a Kibbutz before returning to the United States and enrolling at Stanford University, where she majored in English Literature.  After completing her degree she went on to study at the Yale School of Drama in New Haven.  

Soon she was adding such stage credits to her resume as, "Frogs", "The Nature and Purpose of the Universe", "Daryl and Carol and Kenny and Jenny", "Marco Polo Sing a Song", "The Animal Kingdom", "A Flea in Her Ear", "The Constant Husband", "Conjuring an Event" and the role that really gained her some attention in, "Das Lusitania Songspiel".

Soon she began adding television credits to her resume making appearances on, "Somerset" (1970), "The Best of Families" (1977) and the television movies, "3 by Cheever: The Sorrow of Gin" and "3 by Cheever: O Youth and Beauty!" (both 1979).

In addition to stage and television work, Sigourney appeared on the big screen in such films as, "Alien" (1979), "Eye Witness" (1981), "Deal of the Century" (1983), "One Woman or Two" (1985), "Half Moon Street" (1986) and "Aliens" (1986), which was a huge success and she received both a Golden Globe as well as an Oscar nomination. 

Weaver had finally hit the height of her career as a film actress and more successful roles followed such as in the film, "Gorillas in the Mist" (1988), a role for which she earned Academy Award nominations for both Best Actress as well as Best Supporting Actress.

As her career continued other films included, "Working Girl" (1988), "Ghostbusters II" (1989), "1492: Conquest of Paradise" (1992), "Dave" (1993), "Death and the Maiden" (1994), "Jeffrey" (1995) and "Copycat" (1995).

She has also done voice over work for such projects as, "Futurama", the Disney film, "WALL•E" and the film, "The Tale of Despereaux" among narrating numerous other television movies and documentaries.   

Her final appearances on stage were in the plays, "As You Like It" (1981), "Beyond Therapy" (1981) and "The Merchant of Venice" (1986).  She then kept her focus on films with roles in, "A Map of the World" (1999), "Galaxy Quest" (1999), "Company Man" (2000), "Heartbreakers" (2001), "The Guys" (2002), "The Village" (2004), "Snow Cake" (2006), "The Girl in the Park" (2007) and "Avatar" (2009).
Most recently, she has appeared in, "Abduction" and "Rampart" (both 2011) followed by roles in, "Vamps" (2012), "Red Lights" (2012) and soon to release, "Avatar 2". 
Sigourney has received such honors as being ranked #20 on E4's 100 Greatest Movie Stars and Empire magazine hose her as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history in 2007.  In total, Sigourney has received three Academy Award nominations, three BAFTAS Award nominations for which she won one, two Emmy Awards, six Saturn Awards where she won two, and six Golden Globe Awards also winning two.   
Sigourney Weaver has married only once to Jim Simpson in 1984 and they have one daughter, Charlotte Simpson, and they remain married today and reside in Santa Barbara California as well as New York City, New York.
