SHELLEY FABARES BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Shelley Fabares was born on January 19th, 1944 in Santa Monica, California with the birth name Michele Marie Fabares. From early on in life she was exposed to the life of show business as her aunt was singer and comedienne, Nanette Fabray. She took up tap dancing lessons from the age of three and was also involved in modeling during elementary school age.
By the age of eleven she was already making television appearances on such series as, "Captain Midnight" (1954), "Annie Oakley" (1954) and soon her film debut on, "Never Say Goodbye" (1956) followed by another role that same year in the film, "Rock, Pretty Baby".
In 1958 she was cast for five seasons on, "The Donna Reed Show" and her popularity continued to increase. She did not have any issues transitioning in the industry from child actress, to teen idol star to adult actress.
"Johnny Angel" is the debut pop single by Shelley Fabares released in 1962 and it was the first single taken from her debut solo album Shelley! and premiered on an episode of Fabares' sitcom, "The Donna Reed Show" during the fourth season and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 7, 1962.
Coincidently another singer debuted his hit single also on "The Donna Reed Show", titled "My Dad" performed by Paul Peterson who played her brother, Jeff Stone.
She had also developed into quite a stunning lady that roles were highly available to her. She continued to make appearances on such film features as, "Ride the Wild Surf" (1964), "Hold On!" (1966), "Girl Happy" (1965), "Spinout" (1966) and "Clambake" (1967) the latter three all starring Elvis Presley.
As her career progressed she continued in films but also was seen on television. Her role on the sitcom, "One Day at a Time" (1975) was successful just as her roles in the films, "The Practice" (1976) and "Highcliffe Manor" (1979). She also worked for eight seasons on the series, "Coach" for which she also earned two Emmy nominations.
Other television shows she also had a presence on were, "Love, American Style", "The Rockford Files", "Mannix" and "Fantasy Island". She was diagnosed in the late 90's with auto-immune hepatitis, however she was able to over come the illness after receiving a life saving transplant in 2000.
She has been married twice. Her first husband was Lou Adler a record producer whom she wed in 1964. The couple was separated for fourteen years before the divorce finalized in 1980. She then married her current husband, actor, Mike Farrell in 1984 and she is the step-mother to his two children from a prior marriage.
For the most part, Fabares remains out of the limelight in the industry with just an occasional appearance in 2006 in, "Superman: Braniac Attacks" which went direct-to-video film.
