SENTA BERGER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Senta Berger was born on May 13th, 1941 in Vienna, Austria, born to Josef Berger and Therese Jany. From the age of five, she began taking ballet lessons and then private acting lessons. At the age of sixteen she was cast in her first small role in the film, "The Unexcused Hour".
For a while she then studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar but left early to take on another film role and later she also became the youngest member of the Josefstadt Theatre.
Up until 1962, Berger worked only in Europe adding such film credits to her resume as, "Ich heirate Herrn Direktor" (1960), "The Secret Ways" (1961), "Immer Ärger mit dem Bett" (1961) and "Ramona" (1961).
She then moved to Los Angeles, California and worked on such films as, "Dr. Sibelius" (1962), "The Terror of Doctor Mabuse" (1962) and "Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace" (1962). She then returned back to Europe and worked on a number of European films.
As her career progressed she traveled back and forth between the United States and Europe and added such film credits to her resume as, "Major Dundee" (1965) starring Richard Harris, Jim Hutton, James Coburn and Charlton Heston, "Cast a Giant Shadow" (1966) co-starring Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Angie Dickinson, Yul Brynner and Frank Sinatra, "The Quiller Memorandum" (1966), "He Who Loves in a Glass House" (1971), "Roma bene" (1971), "Mitgift" (1976), "Cross of Iron" (1977), "Cheeeese" (1988) and "Tre colonne in cronaca" (1990).
Throughout her career in the industry she has accomplished some other feats. In 1977, she was the head of the jury at the 27th Berlin International Film Festival and in 2003 she became president of the German Film Academy. She has also received such awards as three Bambi Awards, two Romys, a Goldene Kamera and an Adolf Grimme Award.
Along with her acting career, she founded the film production company, "Sentana" along with her current husband, Michael Verhoeven. The company financed such projects as, "The White Rose" (1982) and "The Nasty Girl" (1990).
Senta Berger has two children and remains working in the industry with her most recent appearances on the television series, "Under Suspicion" (2002-2011) and the films, "Zettl" (2012), "Ruhm" (2012), "Operation Zucker" (2012) and soon to release, the television movie, "Wilkommen in Meckpomm" (2013). She resides in Grünwald near Munich, Germany.
