RUTH ROMAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Ruth Roman was born on December 22nd, 1922 in Lynn, Massachusetts with the birth name Norma Roman. From a very young age she wanted to pursue a career as an actress and chose to study at Bishop Lee Dramatic School in Boston. When she graduated, she relocated to Los Angeles, California and found work on a number of films taking on small roles.
She got her big break when she was cast in the series, "Jungle Queen" (1945) in the title role. A couple other decent roles began to follow such as in the film, "Champion" (1949), "Three Secrets" (1950) and her most memorable role, "Strangers on a Train" (1951).
In 1956 she traveled with her son at that time, only three years old on a ship from Italy to the United States when disaster struck. The ship crashed into a Swedish passenger liner and she returned to her cabin to retrieve him and during the evacuation they got separated. Luckily, when she arrived in the United States her son was on the next evacuation boat and they were re-united.
Along with film work, Roman also worked on television and as a stage actress and won the Sarah Siddons Award for her performance in the Chicago Theatre. Some of her television roles were on such series as, "Bonanza" (1959), "Burke's Law" (1963), "Gunsmoke" (1969-1971), "Fantasy Island" (1980), "Knots Landing" (1986), "Murder, She Wrote" (1986), "The Bing Crosby Show" and "Eleventh Hour" .
Although Ruth never quite reached the level of stardom she hoped for, she managed to have a decent career in the industry for many years. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to television.
Roman was married three times throughout her lifetime, first to Mortimer W. Hall from 1950 through 1956, and they had one son, Richard "Dickie" Hall. Her second marriage was to Budd Burton Moss in 1956 and that too ended in 1960. Her third time to marry was to William Ross Wilson in 1976 and they remained together until she passed away at the age of seventy six on September 9th, 1999 in her sleep in Laguna Beach, California.
