ROGER MOORE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Roger Moore was born on October 14th, 1927 in Stockwell, London with the birth name Roger George Moore to parents, George Alfred Moore and Lillian Pope. He was an only child and studied at Battersea Grammar School, however during World War II, he was sent to Holsworthy, Devon and went on to study at Challoner's Grammar School. He began his College education at the University of Durham, however he never earned his degree. Originally, he had goals of pursuing a career as an artist but that soon changed after working as an extra on a number of films in the 40's.
Before becoming involved in the entertainment industry, Moore signed up for the National Service and was an officer followed by earning the title of Captain. He also was given a chance to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His tuition was covered by director, Brian Desmond Hurst who also cast Moore as an extra in the film, "Trottie True" and also at age seventeen he was appearing as an extra in the film, "Caesar and Cleopatra" (1945).
During the early 50's, he also found work as a male model and appeared in a number of advertisements and also did a small amount of television work in, "The Drawing Room Detective" (1950).
In 1953, Moore relocated to the United States and soon was offered a contract with MGM Productions. It did not take long for him to be appearing on such films as, "Diane" (1956), "Interrupted Melody" (1955) and "The Last Time I Saw Paris" (1954).
Along with his successful film career, Moore also made a number of television appearances on such series as, "Ivanhoe' (1958), "The Alaskans" (1959) and "Maverick" (1957).
He is also remembered for his role as Simon Templar on the British television show, "The Saint" which was his big break into the industry and helped increase his popularity internationally. He also took on a role in, "The Persuaders" (1971) initially to help increase his popularity in the United States, however the show did not gain much attention and was soon cancelled.
Moore is most well known for playing the character, James Bond in seven films total between 1973 and 1985. The first James Bond film was, "Live and Let Die" (1973) followed by, "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "Moonraker" (1979), "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), "Octopussy" (1983) and the last one in 1985 was, "A View to a Kill".
Other films he appeared in were, "That Lucky Touch" (1975), "Shout at the Devil" (1976), "The Wild Geese" (1978), "Escape to Athena" (1979) and "Ffolkes" (1979). He gained a decent fan base and increased popularity in the United States when he appeared in the film, "The Cannonball Run" (1981).
Throughout his lifetime he has married a total of four times. His first wife was Doorn Van Steyn from 1946 through 1953. He then married, Dorothy Squires in 1953 and they were together through 1968. His third time to marry was on April 11th, 1968 to Luisa Mattioli and after having three children this marriage also ended in divorce in 1996. He is currently married to his fourth wife, Christina 'Kiki' Tholstrup whom he wed in 2002.
Some of his more recent film roles have been in, "Bullseye!" (1990), "The Quest" (1996), "The Dream Team" (1999), "Boat Trip" (2002) "A Princess For Christmas" (2011) and soon to release, "Connemara Days" (2012).
Along with his successful career in the entertainment industry he is also involved in a number of other things such as serving as the chairman of the Advisory Board of Red Carpet Film Fund. He also became a UNICEL Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 and was involved in a production for PETA that protects against the production and sale of foie grass which is a food products made from the liver of a duck or goose and is specifically fattened by force feeding.
In 2007, Moore was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in television and films.
