RODD REDWING BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Rodd Redwing was born on August 24th, 1904 in New York City, New York. Redwing became a very well known Native American actor during his era. He is most remembered for his quickness using a gun in his western films. He became known as the , "world's greatest quick-draw artist". Redwing could pull his gun out of the holder and fire within two-tenths of a second.
His career began working on one short film in 1912, however he did not work in another film until 1936. Redwing then appeared in small parts in a number of films, although all his early roles were un-credited. Some of his early work included appearances in the films, "White Hunter" (1936) starring Warner Baxter, June Lang and Gail Patrick, "Daredevils of the West" (1943) starring Allen 'Rocky' Lane, Kay Aldridge, Eddie Acuff, Robert Frazer, Ted Adams, William Haade and George J. Lewis and "Sonora Stagecoach" (1944) starring Hoot Gibson, Bob Steele, Chief Thundercloud, Forrest Taylor, Al Ferguson, Charles King, Bud Osborne, Betty Miles and Glenn Strange.
It was not until 1949 when he was cast in the film, "Riders of the Pony Express" starring Ken Curtis, Shug Fisher, Cathy Douglas, John Dehner and Billy Benedict, that he was actually given credit for his appearance in a film. More un-credited roles followed but he was also cast in a number of television series where he was credited such as, "The Adventures of Wild Bill Hichcock", "The Adventures of Kit Carson", "The Range Rider", "Ramar of the Jungle", "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin", "The Cisco Kid", "December Bride", "Annie Oakley", "Zane Grey Theatre", "Buffalo Bill Jr.", "Frontier", "Rawhide", "Mister Ed", "The People's Choice" and "Bonanza" among many others.
Some of his other more successful credited film roles he added to his resume over the course of his career included, "Key Largo" (1948) starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore, Claire Trevor, Thomas Gomez and Jay Silverheels, "Conquest of Cochise" (1953) also starring John Hodiak, Robert Stack, Joy Page, Rico Alaniz, Fortunio Bonanova, Edward Colmans and Alex Montoya, "Gunfighters of the Northwest" (1954) starring alongside Jock Mahoney, Clayton Moore, Phyllis Coates, Marshall Reed, Lyle Talbot, Chief Yowlachie, Pierce Lyden, William Fawcett, Lee Roberts, Terry Frost, John Hart, Don C. Harvey and Ken Maynard, "Cattle Queen of Montana" (1954) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Ronald Reagan, Jack Elam, Chubby Johnson and Morris Ankrum, "Creature From the Black Lagoon" (1954) starring Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Ben Chapman, Antonio Moreno, Ricou Browning and Whit Bissell, "The Mole People" (1956) starring John Agar, Cynthis Patrick, Hugh Beaumont, Nester Paiva and Alan Napier, "The Flame Barrier" (1958) starring Arthur Franz, Kathleen Crowley and Robert Brown and "Johnny Reno" (1966) starring Dana Andrews, Jane Russell, Lon Chaney Jr., John Agar, Lyle Bettger, Richard Arlen, Tom Drake and Robert Lowery.
Along with working as an actor he also trained a number of other actors how to use a gun when filming westerns. Some of these actors included, Glenn Ford, Jerry Lewis, Henry Fonda, Ronald Reagan, Dean Martin, Charlton Heston, Richard Widmark, Anthony Quinn, Fred MacMurray and Alan Ladd.
Rodd Redwing married only once to Erika Rosa Wagner. Some of his last working acting roles included the television series, "Custer" and "Mannix" and the films, "Shalako" (1968) starring Sean Connery, Brigitte Bardot, Stephen Boyd, Honor Blackman and Jack Hawkins and "Charro!" (1969) starring Elvis Presley, Ina Balin, Lynn Kellog, Paul Brinegar, Victor French, Barbara Werle, Solomon Sturges and Harry Landers. He passed away on May 30th, 1971 in Los Angeles, California after suffering a heart attack.
