ROBERT WEBBER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Robert Webber was born on October 14th, 1924 in Santa Ana, California, born to Alice and Robert Webber. His career as an actor began as a stage performer appearing in a number of Broadway productions. He then took a brief break from his career to join the Marine Corps and fought during World War II. Upon completing his military service he then began to break into the film industry.
Webber began first with working as a television actor adding such credits to his resume as, "Starlight Theatre", "Out There", "Tales of Tomorrow", "The Rifleman" and "Suspense". Some of his first screen roles included, "12 Angry Men" (1957) starring alongside Henry Fonda, Martin Balsam, Jack Klugman, Ed Begley, Jack Warden, Edward Binns, E.G. Marshall and Lee J. Cobb and "The Nun and the Sergeant" (1962) starring Anna Sten, Hari Rhodes and Leo Gordon.
As his career progressed he alternated from film and television work with his more well known film roles including, "The Sandpiper" (1965) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Charles Bronson and Eva Marie Saint, "Hysteria" (1965), "The Dirty Dozen" (1967) starring Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Ralph Meeker, George Kennedy, Richard Jaeckel, Donald Sutherland, Charles Bronson, Clint Walker, Telly Savalas, John Cassavetes, Jim Brown and Trini Lopez, "The Great White Hope" (1970) starring James Earl Jones, Jane Alexander, Chester Morris, Hal Holbrook, Beah Richards and Moses Gunn, "Midway" (1976) featuring an international cast of superstars including Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson, Glenn Corbett, Robert Wagner, Tom Selleck, James Shigeta, Ed Nelson, Dabney Coleman, Christopher George, Pat Morita and Robert Ito, "Revenge of the Pink Panther" (1978) co-starring Peter Sellers, Dyan Cannon, Robert Loggia and Herbert Lom, "10" (1979) starring Bo Derek, Dudley Moore, Brian Dennehy and Julie Andrews, "Private Benjamin" (1980) starring Goldie Hawn, Armand Assante and Eileen Brennan, "Wild Geese II" (1985) starring Scott Glenn, Edward Cox, Barbara Carrera and Laurence Olivier and "Nuts" (1987) starring Barbra Streisand, Richard Dreyfuss, Maureen Stapleton, Eli Wallach, James Whitmore, Leslie Nielsen and Karl Malden.
Alongside his film work he also appeared on the television series, "Checkmate", "Thriller", "Arrest & Trial", "The Fugitive", "The Outer Limits", 'The Name of the Game", "Kojak", "Ironside", "Cannon", "Death Stalk" and most recently, he added to his resume, the television series, "Moonlighting" and the television movie, "Something is Out There" (1988).
Robert Webber married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Miranda Jones in 1953 however by 1958 this marriage ended in divorce. He then married Del Mertens in 1972 and they remained together until he passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease on May 19th, 1989 in Malibu, California.
