ROBERT WARWICK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Robert Warwick was born on October 9th, 1878 in Sacramento, California with the birth name Robert Taylor Bien. From a young age he enjoyed performing and would sing in his local church choir. He had his goal set on pursuing a career in Opera and after high school, Warwick traveled to Paris to work on his singing.
In 1903, he was given a chance to work as an understudy for the Broadway production, "Glad of It". It was this experience that caused him to make the switch from pursuing a career in Opera to instead a career as an actor.
Soon he was adding numerous stage credits to his resume such as, "The Kiss of the Waltz", "The Princess", "Anna Karenina", "Two Women" and "The Secret".
After gaining quite a bit of stage experience he then began appearing in a number of silent films with his debut in, "The Dollar Mark" (1914) followed by, "Man of the Hour" (1914).
Soon he was adding more film roles to his credits such as, "Alias Jimmy Valentine" (1915), "The Face in the Moonlight" (1915), "The Heart of a Hero" (1916), "The Mad Lover" (1917) and "A Girl's Folly" (1917).
Warwick then took a brief break from his acting career during World War I to serve with the United States Army, however, upon completing his service he returned right back to his career as an actor.
As his career progressed he had no issue making the transition to sound films, even though he was already fifty years old. Some more of his well known film roles included, "Night Life of the Gods" (1935) with Alan Mowbray, Florine McKinney, Peggy Shannon, Douglas Fowley, William 'Stage' Boyd and Ray 'Crash' Corrigan, "The Little Colonel" (1935) starring Shirley Temple, Lionel Barrymore, Evelyn Venable, John Lodge, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson and Hattie McDaniel, "Mary of Scotland" (1936) starring Katharine Hepburn, Fredric March, John Carradine, Robert Barrat, Monte Blue, Donald Crisp, Florence Eldridge, Ralph Forbes and Alan Mowbray, "Romeo and Juliet" (1936) starring Leslie Howard, Norma Shearer, John Barrymore, Edna May Oliver, Andy Devine, C. Aubrey Smith and Reginald Denny, "The Prince and the Pauper" (1937) starring Errol Flynn, twins Billy and Bobby Mauch in the title roles, and Claude Rains, Barton MacLane, Henry Stephenson, Montague Love, Alan Hale Sr. and Halliwell Hobbes, "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Melville Cooper, Una O'Connor, Montague Love, Patric Knowles, Carole Landis, Ian Hunter, Alan Hale Sr. and Eugene Pallette, "The Private Lives of Essex and Elizabeth" (1939) starring Bette Davis, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Donald Crisp, Henry Daniell, Henry Stephenson, Ralph Forbes, Nanette Fabray, Leo G. Carroll and Vincent Price and "The Sea Hawk" (1940) starring Errol Flynn, Brenda Marshall, Claude Rains, Donald Crisp, Flora Robson, Gilbert Roland, Henry Daniell, Jack La Rue, Montague Love, Pedro de Cordoba, James Stephenson, Una O'Connor, William Lundigan, Alan Hale Sr. and Halliwell Hobbes.
In addition to working as a stage and film actor, Warwick also started his own production company called, Robert Warwick Corp. producing such films as, "The Accidental Honeymoon" (1918) and four other shorts.
Although he worked consistently throughout his career, the majority of roles he portrayed were not the leads in the films, however, there were a couple exceptions such as in the 1941 film, "Sullivan's Travels" starring alongside Joel McCrea, Veronica Lake, Byron Foulger, William Demarest, Franklin Pangborn, Margaret Hayes and Porter Hall, "In a Lonely Place" (1950) starring Humphrey Bogart, Gloria Grahame, Frank Lovejoy, Morris Ankrum, Carl Benton Reid, Martha Stewart and Steven Geray and "While the City Sleeps" (1956) co-starring Dana Andrews, Rhonda Fleming, George Sanders, Howard Duff, Thomas Mitchell, Sally Forrest, Vincent Price, John Drew Barrymore, James Craig and Ida Lupino.
Warwick continued acting up until he passed away, however the majority of his latter career was focused around working as a television actor. He appeared on numerous series such as, "Wagon Train", "Lock Up", "Sugarfoot", "Zane Grey Theatre", "The Adventures of Jim Bowie", "Peter Gunn", "Cheyenne", "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin", "Rescue 8", "The Loretta Young Show", "Biff Baker, U.S.A.", "Topper", "Twilight Zone", "Tate", "The Deputy", "Hawaiian Eye", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Crossroads".
His last acting role was in 1964 on the series, "Dr. Kildare" portraying, Dr. Bromley. He then passed away just two years later on June 6th, 1964 in Los Angeles, California at the age of eighty six. His remains are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
Throughout his lifetime, he married three times. First very briefly to Josephine Whittell and they had one daughter together. When this marriage came to an end he married Arline Peck and had another daughter, before the marriage ended in 1909. His third wife was Stella Lattimore and they remained together until she passed away in 1960.
