ROBERT MORLEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Robert Morley was born on May 26th, 1908 in Wiltshire, England with the birth name Robert Adolph Wilton Morley, born to Gertrude Emily and Robert Wilton Morley. He received his early years education in France, Germany, England and Italy.
Originally, he had goals of pursuing a career in diplomatic services, however he had become intrigued by acting and decided against his family's wishes, to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
He began with studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and by 1929 he began working as a stage actor appearing in a variety of productions such as, "Treasure Island" (1929). By 1938 he began adding a number of Broadway credits to his resume such as, "Oscar Wilde".
Robert then made his film debut in, "Marie Antoinette" (1938) starring Norma Shearer, Tyrone Power, John Barrymore, Joseph Schildkraut and Anita Louise. Soon he was adding such film credits to his resume as the lead in, "Oscar Wilde" (1960) co-starring Ralph Richardson as Sir Edward Carson, Phyllis Calvert as Constance Wilde, John Neville as Lord Alfred Douglas, Dennis Price as Robbie Ross, Alexander Knox as Sir Edgar Clarke and Edward Chapman as the Marquess of Queensberry, "The African Queen" (1951) starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, "Go to Blazes" (1962) starring Dave King, Norman Rossington, Daniel Massey, Dennis Price, Maggie Smith and David Lodge, "Ladies Who Do" (1963) starring Peggy Mount, "Genghis Khan" (1965) starring Omar Sharif, James Mason, Stephen Boyd, Telly Savalas and Eli Wallach, "Life at the Top" (1965) starring Laurence Harvey and Jean Simmons, "Hot Millions" (1968) starring Peter Ustinov, Cesar Romero, Maggie Smith, Karl Malden and Bob Newhart, "Cromwell" (1970) starring Richard Harris and Alec Guinness and "Scavenger Hunt" (1979) starring Richard Benjamin, Cloris Leachman, Cleavon Little, Roddy McDowall, Dirk Benedict, Willie Aames, Tony Randall, Ruth Gordon, Scatman Crothers, Richard Mulligan, James Coco, Stephen Furst, Hal Landon Jr., Avery Schreiber, Pat McCormick and Richard Armstrong.
Along with film work he also appeared on a variety of television series such as, "Emergency-Ward TV", "Charge!", "Tales of the Unexpected", "Lady Killers", "The Old Men at the Zoo", "War and Remembrance" and "Around the World in 80 Days".
Morley was also a playwright with successful plays, "Edward, My Son" and "Goodness, How Sad". He also toured in a one man show, "The Sound of Morley".
Robert Morley married only once to Joan Buckmaster in 1940 and they had three children together and remained married until he passed away at the age of eighty four, on June 3rd, 1992 in Berkshire, England after suffering from a stroke. His remains were interred at St. Mary's Churchyard in Berkshire, England.
