ROBERT LOGGIA BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Robert Loggia was born on January 3rd, 1930 in New York City, New York with the birth name Salvatore Loggia. His parents were Elena Blandino and Benjamin Loggia who was a shoemaker.
He graduated from Dorp High School in Staten Island, New York in 1947 and then from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in Journalism. He served in the United States Army and then in his early twenties he developed an interest in acting and in 1951 decided to begin an acting career.
In 1958 he played Elfego Baca, an American lawman, in the television series of, "Walt Disney television shows" followed by working on the series, "T.H.E. Cat". He made a number of other television appearances such as, "Frasier", "Overland Trail", "The Eleventh Hour", "Breaking Point", "Charlie's Angels", "The Sopranos", "Wagon Train", "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", "Monk" and "Little House on the Prairie".
Along with his television appearances he also worked on the big screen in such films as, "Somebody Up There Likes Me" (1956) starring Paul Newman, Pier Angeli, Everett Sloane, Sal Mineo, Ray Stricklyn and an uncredited Steve McQueen, and the historical epic "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965) with an all star ensemble cast including Max von Sydow, Charlton Heston, Dorothy McGuire, Telly Savalas, Jose Ferrer, Martin Landau, Claude Rains, Donald Pleasence, Joanna Dunham, Ed Wynn, David McCallum, Roddy McDowall, Joseph Schildkraut and Michael Anderson Jr. and a plethora of cameo appearances by Michael Ansara, Ina Balin, Carroll Baker, Robert Blake, Pat Boone, Victor Buono, John Considine, Richard Conte, Jamie Farr, David Hedison, Van Heflin, Russell Johnson, Angela Lansbury, John Lupton, Sal Mineo, Nehemiah Persoff, Sidney Poitier, Gary Raymond, Marian Seldes, David Sheiner, Paul Stewart, John Wayne, Mark Lenard and Shelley Winters, "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982) starring alongside Richard Gere, Debra Winger and Louis Gossett Jr., "Scarface" (1983) co-starring Al Pacino, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Steven Bauer and Michelle Pfeiffer, "Prizzi's Honor" (1985) starring Jack Nicholson, Kathleen Turner, Laurence Tierney and Anjelica Huston, "Independence Day" (1996) starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Viveca Fox, Judd Hirsch and Randy Quaid just to name a few, "Return to Me" (2000) starring with David Duchovny, Minnie Driver, Jim Belushi and Carroll O'Connor, "Armed and Dangerous" (1986) co-starring John Candy, Eugene Levy, Meg Ryan and Kenneth McMillan, "Innocent Blood" (1992) featuring Anne Parillaud, Anthony LaPaglia, Angela Bassett and Don Rickles among many others and his final film was "Apostle Peter and the Last Supper" (2012) also starring Bruce Marchiano, Sarah Prikryl and Ryan Alosio.
He also won an Academy Award for his role in the film, "Jagged Edge" (1985) starring with Glenn Close, Jeff Bridges, Peter Coyote and John Dehner and was nominated for an Emmy in 1989 in the television series, "Marcuso, FBI" portraying a FBI agent. Loggia also did a number of voiceovers such as in, "Tom Goes to the Mayor" and in a video game called, "Grand Theft Auto III".
He has been married twice, first to Marjorie Sloan in 1954 and they had two children before they divorced and then he remarried in 1982 to Audrey O'Brien and they are still married with one child. He is still working as an actor today and has some films soon to be released or in post production such as, "The Life Zone" (2011), "Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie" (2012) and "Room and Board" (2011).
Robert Loggia was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2010 in recognition of his humanitarian efforts.
