RICHARD ROUNDTREE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Richard Roundtree was born on July 9th, 1942 in New Rochelle, New York.  He became best known in the industry for his role as private detective, John Shaft in the 1971 film, "Shaft" and the following sequels, "Shaft's Big Score" (1972) and "Shaft in Africa" (1973).
 
He began his career as a fashion model and later moved into the acting arena.  Along with pursuing a career in entertainment he earned a football scholarship to study at Southern Illinois University.  To break into acting, he began working as a stage actor in such productions as, "The Great White Hope". 
 
As his career progressed he continued to work in films being seen in such features as, "Escape to Athena" (1979), "City Heat" (1984), "Game for Vultures" (1979), "Se7en" (1995) and the remake of "Shaft" in 2000.
 
Along with film roles he has made a number of television appearances on such series as, "Beverly Hills, 90210" (1991), "Touched By an Angel" (1996), "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" (1998), "As the World Turns" (2002-2003), "Desperate Housewives" (2004-2005), "Heroes" (2006-2007) and "Lincoln Heights" (2007-2009).
 
Some of his latest roles have been in the film, "Speed Racer" (2008), "Go Beyond the Lens" (2011) and soon to release in 2012, "Duke", "Retreat!" and "The Bitter Eart".
 
Roundtree has five children total, three daughter from his first wife and a daughter and  son, from his marriage to Karen Roundtree whom he wed in 1980 but later divorced.  In 1993 he was diagnosed with breast cancer and became an advocate talking to men's groups about breast cancer awareness.
