In addition to now working in films, he maintained his love for the stage and also worked on the other side of the industry as a writer, producer and director for plays performed at the L.A. Actors Theater in Los Angeles, California that he also managed during the 1970's.

As his career progressed he continued to work on such television series as, "American Playhouse" and "Tales from the Crypt". Richard Jordan married only once throughout his lifetime to Kathleen Widdoes in 1964 and they had one child together before the marriage came to an end in 1972. He did not re-marry but did live with his longtime girlfriend, Blair Brown from 1975 through 1985 and they had one son together.
