PRESTON FOSTER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Preston Foster was born on August 24th, 1900 in Pitman, New Jersey. He began his acting career as a stage actor. His first public appearance was in the church choir in his hometown of Ocean City, New Jersey. He had a very good singing voice and a very handsome, robust look.
By 1929 he began a career in film. Some of his more well known roles were in films such as, "The Last Mile" (1932), "Doctor X" (1932), "I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang" (1932), "Annie Oakley" (1935), "The Last Days of Pompeii" (1935), "The Informer" (1935), "Thunder Birds" (1942), "My Friend Flicka" (1943), "Kansas City Confidential" (1952) and "I, the Jury" (1953).
He was also a television actor who worked on the television drama, "Waterfront" (1954-1955) playing a tugboat skipper, adventurer and family man, Captain John Herrick. Foster did serve in the United States coast Guard during World War II and rose to rank of captain. He also recorded a singing trip back in 1948 with Gein Leis and his 2nd wife Sheila Darcy.
Foster married twice in his lifetime, first to actress, Gertrude Warren from 1926-1945 and together, they had one daughter, Stephanie. His second marriage was to Sheila Darcy from 1946 until he passed away in 1970.
Preston Foster passed away on July 14th, 1970 at the age of sixty nine in La Jolla, California. He is honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion picture Industry.
