PETER USTINOV BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Peter Ustinov was born on April 16th, 1921 in London, England with the birth name Peter Alexander Freiherr von Ustinov.  Peter was raised in a multi-lingual family speaking fluent Russian, French, Italian, German and English.  After high School he went on to study at Westminster College between 1934 and 1937 and also studied acting at the London Theater Studio.

Peter first began working as a stage actor at a theatre in Surrey, England in 1938.  Then he went on to perform on the London stage and after gaining some experience as a stage performer, Peter began to pursue an interest in the film industry.

His film debut was an un-credited role in  1940 on, "Hullo Fame".  He then took a break from acting to serve with the British Army's Royal Sussex Regiment during World War II.  When he finished his service he went right back to pursuing a career as an actor working on two films in 1942, "Let the People Sing" and "One of Our Aircraft is Missing".

As his career progressed he would add over 100 films to his resume along with being awarded two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in the films, "Spartacus" (1960) and "Topkapi" (1964).  He also earned two Oscar nominations, one for his acting and another for his writing.

Along with being a successful film and stage actor he also worked on the other sides of the industry as a writer, director and even a journalist.  Some of his more famous roles were in the films, "Death on the Nile" (1978), "Evil Under the Sun" (1982), "Appointment with Death" (1988) and "Lorenzo's Oil" (1992).

He was an acclaimed television journalist as well.  During one project, "Peter Ustinov's Russia" which was a television series, Peter actually visited more then thirty Russian cities to make this series.  Peter was also a theatrical play writer and wrote two autobiography's, "Dear Me" (1977) and "My Russia" (1966).

Along with his long professional resume he was also a man involved with charities such as the United national Children's Fund where he served as the Goodwill Ambassador from 1968 through his passing.  He also served as Chancellor of the University of Durham from 1992 until his death in 2004.

His final appearance was in, "Winter Solstice" (2003).  Even though for the most part he stayed working in the industry up until his passing, he still chose to reside in Switzerland in a private Chateau.  Peter Ustinov passed away on March 28th, 2004 from heart failure.  He was interred in the village cemetery of Bursins, Switzerland.

He was survived by his third wife, Helene du Lau d Allemans and his three children, Tamara, Pavla and Andrea.  The girl's biological mother was from his second marriage to Suzanne Cloutier from 1954 through 1971.  Peter was married for ten years to his first wife, Isolde Denham and he had one child with her.
