PETER COYOTE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Peter Coyote was born on October 10th, 1941 in Manhattan, New York with the birth name Rachmil Pinchus Ben Mosha Cohon, born to parents, Ruth and Morris Cohon.  He was born to a Jewish family and was raised in Englewood, New Jersey.  After earning his high school diploma from Dwight-Englewood School in 1960 he enrolled at Grinnell College and earned a BA in English Literature in 1964.  Coyote then relocate to California where he enrolled at San Francisco State University to earn a Master's Degree in Creative Writing.
 
While living in San Francisco he found work at the Actors' Workshop and then decided to join the San Francisco Mime Troupe where he was involved in acting, directing and writing scripts for the troupe.
 
He later became one of the founders of the Diggers which was an anarchist improvisation group.  Throughout his lifetime he was not only an established actor but also had a career as a author, director, screen writer and narrator of audio books, films, and television.  He was also involved in directing the first ever cross-country tour of the Minstrel Show.
 
Peter Coyote also had a very successful writing career.  He wrote a number of articles for various magazines, most having to do with the subject of politics.  He was wrote a memoir, "Sleeping Where I Fall" where he included many personal experiences. 
 
Between 1975 and 1983 he was a member of the California Arts Council which ultimately lead to his interest in pursuing a career as a film actor.  He also returned to stage performing and was seen in such productions as, "True West".  His film career began with his first role in, "Die Laughing" (1980).  Soon more roles followed in such films as, "Tell Me a Riddle" (1980), "Southern Comfort" (1981), "E.T The Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) and "Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann" (1982).
 
Peter also added to his resume numerous projects as a narrator for such documentary films as, "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room", "Guns, Germs, and Steel", the series, "National Parks" and "National Geographic Explorer". 
 
Recently he has starred in such films as, "Sphere" (1998), "A Walk to Remember" (2002), "Erin Brockovich" (2000) starring Julia Roberts, "Last Will" (2010) and soon to release, "The Story of Bonnie & Clyde" (2012).
 
He has been married twice, first to Marilyn Mccann from 1977 through 1998 and together they had two children.  He then married his second wife, Stefanie Pleet in 1998 and they remain together today.
