PETER BRECK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Peter Breck was born on March 13th, 1929 in Haverhill, Massachusetts with the birth name Joseph Peter Breck.  His father was a jazz musician and since his parents traveled so much for work he was raised by his grandparents in Havervill, Massachusetts.  When his parents divorced he returned to live with his mother in Rochester and completed school at John Marshall High School.

After High School he joined the United States Navy and then studied drama and English at the University of Houston.  He began performing on stage in a number of school productions and also worked part time singing in several clubs locally.

After college he worked at Washington DC's Arena Theatre appearing in such stage productions as "The man of Destiny" and was soon discovered by another actor Robert Mitchum who got him a role in the film "Thunder Road" (1958).

It was this film role that lead to the start of his career and a move to Hollywood.  He struggled finding work but did appear in the film, "The Beatniks" (1960) and also found work on such television series as "Black Saddle" (1959), "Gilligan's Island" (1964) and his most well known role playing the son of actress Barbara Stanwyck on the western television series "The Big Valley" (1965).

Due to his role on "The Big Valley" series he was given the opportunity to appear on television in a number of other series such as, "The Roaring 20's" (1960), "Surfside 6" (1960), "Bronco" (1958) and "77 Sunset Strip" (1958).  Peter also was cast as a regular on "Maverick" (1957).

He did a couple more films for Warner Brothers and then took on some more television roles before returning his focus to a stage career.  He took a break from acting when he found out his only son, Christopher from his wife Diane Bourne whom he wed in 1960 was suffering from acute myeloid leukemia and two years later Christopher passed away.

Peter did return to acting after the loss of his son working on such films as "Terminal City Ricochet" (1990), "Decoy" (1995) and "Enemy Action" (1999).  He currently remains married and lives with his wife in Vancouver, British Columbia and writes a column for Wildwest Westerns magazine.
