PEDRO ARMENDAREZ BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Pedro Armendarez was born on may 9th, 1912 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal with the birth name Pedro Gregorio Armendáriz Hastings.  He was born during the Mexican revolution times and was raised in Churubusco by his parents, Perdro Armendariz Garcia-Condo and his mother, Adele Hastings who was an American.  His family then relocated to Laredo, Texas where Pedro lived until 1921 when both his parents passed away.

It was Pedro's uncle who helped him afterwards sending young Pedro to study at the Polytechnic Institute of San Luis Obispo in California.  Pedro graduated with a degree in business and journalism and then relocated back to Mexico city where he found employment in various fields unrelated to acting.

One day he was reciting Hamlet's monologue to an American tourist in a cafeteria when a director, Miguel Zacarias took notice of him.  He began what would be known as one of the greatest careers for a Mexican actor.  He was able to portray any type of character and was so admired by all in the industry as Pedro showed so much passion and kindness to everyone around him.

He worked in films all over the world, Mexico, America and even Italy.  Some of his more well known Mexican film roles were in, "El Indio" (1939), "El Zorro de Jalisco" (1941), "Del rancho a la capital" (1942) and "Bugambilia" (1945).  His well known Hollywood roles were in such films as 3 Godfathers (1948) starring John Wayne, Harry Carey Jr., and Ward Bond, "Fort Apache" (1948) starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Joanne Dru, John Agar, Ben Johnson, Victor McLaglen and Harry Carey Jr., "Tulsa" (1949) starring Susan Hayward, "Border River" (1954), "The Conqueror" (1956) again starring John Wayne and "From Russia With Love" (1963).

Throughout his career he became known as just 'Pete' and also "The Clark Gable of Mexico".  He married only once to Carmelita Bohr on June 19th, 1938 and they never had any children together but remained married until he passed away on June 18th, 1963 in Los Angeles, California from suicide with a loaded weapon.  It is known however that his reason for committing suicide was due to the fact that he was fighting the diagnosis of cancer and saw no hope for a full recovery.
