PAUL FIX BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Paul Fix was born on March 13th, 1901 in Dobbs Ferry, New York with the birth name Peter Haul Fix.  He had two sisters and three brothers and a great childhood.  His family lived on a 200 acre property in which his father was the brew-master of Manilla Anchor Brewery.  When both his parents passed away, he was still too young to live on his own, therefore he went to live with his sisters. 
 
When he was seventeen years old, Fix joined the United States Navy and served during World War I.  He had his first introduction to acting when he was in the navy and chosen to be in a Navy Relief show, "HMS Pinafore". 
 
Upon leaving serving his country, Fix returned home to his current girlfriend, Frances Harvey and in 1922 the couple married and moved to California.  He became friends with another young man his age, Clark Gable, whom was trying to pursue a career in acting.  When the two were discovered by, Pauline Frederick, a stage actress they were both hired to be part of her touring group.  They appeared in a total of twenty plays together. 
 
Soon roles in small silent films followed and then as the western genre was entering into the film industry, Fix realized this was where he fit best.  His first early talkie film was, "The First Kiss" (1928) followed by, "Lucky Star" and "Ladies Love Brutes" (1930), and by the end of his career, Fix had appeared in more then 300 films.
 
Fix worked with some of the most famous actors of his time, John Ford the director, and John Wayne whom together the two men did 26 films together with films such as, "Three Girls Lost" (1931), Angel and the Badman" (1947) co-starring Gail Russell, Harry Carey and Irene Rich.
 
As his career progressed so did he as an actor.  He took on roles portraying a better class character and even used his talent in the industry to work as a screen writer.  He is credited for writing three films, "Tall in the Saddle" (1944) also starring Ella Raines, "Ring of Fear" (1954) and "The Notorious Mr. Monks" (1958). 
 
Alongside a successful film career in features such as, "The Bad Seed" (1956) and "Giant" (also 1956) starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Chill Wills and Dennis Hopper, Fix became well known as a television movie and series actor whom played, Marshal Michah Torrance on a series called, "The Rifleman" (1958) starring alongside Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford.
 
Well into the 60's and 70's Fix continued to work on films on the big screen, television movies and various television appearances.  He was the judge in, "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) starring Gregory Peck and  was also on, "The Adventures of Superman" (1953-1954) starring George Reeves and a regular on the series, "Perry Mason" (1957-1963) starring Raymond Burr, Barbara Hale, William Talman, Ray Collins and William Hopper.       
 
Fix married twice, first to Frances Harvey from 1922 through 1945 having one child together, Marilyn Carey who also became a actress.  His second and final marriage was to Beverly Pratt from August 20th, 1949 through November 13th, 1979 when she passed away.

Just a couple years after losing his wife, Paul Fix passed away on October 14th, 1983 in Los Angeles, California from kidney failure.  He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica California.  Paul Fix's career spanned over fifty six years from 1925-1981.
