Paul Douglas ACTOR


Paul Douglas was born on April 11th, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Paul Douglas Fleischer.  His involvement in acting first began as a stage actor and soon he was making his Broadway debut on, "Double Dummy" in 1936 at the John Golden Theatre.  He went on to win a Theatre World Award and a Clarence Derwent Award in 1946 for his role on the Broadway play, "Born Yesterday".
In 1949 he began his film career with a role on, "A letter To Three Wives" followed by two films who most remember him by, "Angels in the Outfield" (1951) and "It Happens Every Spring" (1949).  Some of his other film roles to follow were in, "Panic in the Streets" (1950), "The Big Life" (1950), "When in Rome" (1952) and "Executive Suite" (1954).
In 1950, Douglas had the opportunity to host the 22nd annual Academy Awards and was also a radio host on, "The Ed Wynn Show" and "The Horn & Hardart Children's Hour".  A major role Douglas was cast in was "The Twilight Zone" (1959) for the episode titled, "The Mighty Casey", however he died suddenly of a heart attack and his character was replaced.    
Paul Douglas married a total of five times, the first two marriage were very brief to Sussie Welles and then to Elizabeth Farnesworth.  His third marriage was to Geraldine Higgins in 1940 and they also only stayed together one year before the marriage ended in divorce.  His fourth time to marry was to Virginia Field whom he married in 1942 and had one child, Margaret, before also ending this marriage in divorce in 1946.  His fifth time to wed was in 1950 to actress Jan Sterling whom he also had one child a son, Adam Douglas and they remained together until he passed away on September 11th, 1959 in Hollywood, California after suffering from a heart attack at the age of fifty two.
