NINA FOCH BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Nina Foch was born on April 20th, 1924 in Leiden, Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands with the birth name Nina Consuelo Maud Fock. Her father, Dirk Fock, was a Dutch musical composer and her mother, Consuelo Flowerton was an American Actress and vocalist.
When Foch was just a young girl, her parents marriage ended in divorce and she moved back to the united States with her mother and settled in New York. As a young girl being born into a family involved in entertainment, her mother encouraged her to pursue the arts. Foch took up piano lessons and like her mother, also developed an interest in acting.
After completing high school she began to focus more on acting. She received her training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and soon began to gain some experience as a stage actress.
At the age of nineteen she was signed to a contract with Columbia Studio's and began appearing in such films as, "The Return of the Vampire" (1944), "A Song to Remember" (1945), "My Name is Julia Ross" (1945), "I Love a Mystery" (1945), "The Guilt of Janet Ames" (1947), "The Dark Past" (1948) and "Johnny Allegro" (1949).
Over the course of her career she would add over eighty films credits and numerous television credits to her resume. In the early 50's she left her contract with Columbia and began to turn her focus back to her career as a stage actress. Some of her more successful theatrical credits included, "John Loves Mary", "The Respectful Prostitute", "Twelfth Night", "Measure for Measure" and "The Taming of the Shrew".
Although she loved performing on the big stage she continued to still work as a film actress. Foch worked with MGM on such films as, "An American in Paris" (1951), "Executive Suite" (1954), "The Ten Commandments" (1956) and "Spartacus" (1960).
For her performance in, "Executive Suite", she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. More recent film roles included, "War and Remembrance" (1988), "It's My Party" (1996), "Hush" (1998), "Pumpkin" 2002), "How to Deal" (2003) and the television movie "Back When We Were Grownups" (2004).
In addition to stage and film credits, Foch also worked as a television actress. She had a regular role on, "Playhouse 90". Other television credits include, "Suspense", "Danger", "Wagon Train", "Rawhide", "Route 66", "Burke's Law", "Dr. Kildare", "Hawaii Five-O", "Barnaby Jones", "Murder, She Wrote", "N.C.I.S." and most recent in 2007, "The Closer".
Along with her career as an actress she also used her talent to teach acting at USC and also served as a faculty member at the American Film Institute.
She married a total of three times throughout her lifetime. First to James Lipton from 1954 through 1959. She then married Dennis de Brito in 1959 and they had one child together before the marriage came to an end in 1963. Her third husband was Michael Dewell who she married in 1967 however by 1993, another marriage came to an end.
Nina Foch passed away in Los Angeles, California on December 5th, 2008 after suffering from complications due to a blood disorder known as myelodysplasia.
