NICOLAS CAGE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Nicolas Cage was born on January 7th, 1964 in Long Beach, California with the birth name Nicholas Kim Coppola. His parents were, August Coppola and Joy Vogemsang, who was a dancer and choreographer. His parents divorced in 1976 and after attending Beverly Hills High School where he dropped out at the age of seventeen he had his first small role in the film, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982), he found work selling popcorn at a local movie theater.
He wanted to work as an actor but was having a tough time breaking into the industry. He went on to study film at the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television. Soon, he was cast in, "Rumble Fish" (1983) followed by another small role in the film, "Valley Girl" (1983). It was this role that first helped him gain some attention in Hollywood and he began to get more roles soon after.
Soon he was appearing on the big screen in such films as, "The Cotton Club" (1984), "Moonstruck" (2007), "Wild at Heart" (1990), "Leaving Las Vegas" (1995), "Adaptation" (2002), and "Matchstick Men" (2003).
Although he has been seen on the big screen a number of times, not all of the film roles he took on were successful. Many were failures at the box office such as, "8mm" (1999), "Lord of War" (2005), "The Weather Man" (2005) and "The Wicker Man" (2006). However, "Ghost Rider" (2007) earned over 45 million just during it's opening weekend and toped out at $208 million worldwide.
The majority of the films that were successful were action films such as, "The Rock" (1996). He has also been involved in the industry as a director and producer for such films as, "Sonny" (2002), "The Life of David Gale" (2002), "Next" (2007), "Bangkok Dangerous" (2007) and "A Thousand Words" scheduled to release in 2012.
Throughout his career he has been honored with two Academy Award nominations, for which he won one. Also in 1995 he was awarded Best Actor for his performance in, "Leaving Las Vegas".
He also has a huge interest in comic books and in 2007 he created a comic book with his son, Weston called, 'Voodoo Child'. He is one of Hollywood's highest paid actors with earnings of 40 million in 2009.
