MORGAN WOODWARD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Morgan Woodward was born on September 16th, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas with the birth name Thomas Morgan Woodward. He has four siblings and after graduating from high school in 1944, he went on to study at music and drama at Arlington State College.
He later transferred to the University of Texas and changed his major to Business Administration with a minor in music and drama where he graduated in 1951. He then decided to go on to law school, however, prior to earning his degree, he was called to duty to serve with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Upon completing his military service he chose to pursue a career as an actor and never earned his law degree. He first broke into the film industry when he was cast in the first Walt Disney full length live-action motion picture film, "The Great Locomotive Chase" (1956) starring with Fess Parker, Jeffrey Hunter, John Lupton, Kenneth Tobey, Don Megowan, Dick Sargent, Eddie Firestone, Claude Jarman Jr., Harry Carey Jr. and Slim Pickens.
Soon he was signed to a contract and began appearing on such television series as, "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp". Other well known television appearances early on in his career included, "Gunsmoke", "Wagon Train", "The Restless Gun", "Cheyenne", " Frontier Doctor ", "Cimarron City", "Perry Mason", "Sugarfoot", "Zane Grey Theatre" and "Tales of Wells Fargo".
Over the course of his career, he appeared on over 100 television series and numerous films. He had a regular role on the series, "Dallas" and also appeared on, "Bonanza", "Have Gun - Will Travel", "Logan's Run", "The Lucy Show", "Bat Masterson", "The Rifleman", "Days of Our Lives", "The Waltons", "Murder, She Wrote", "Fantasy Island", "Pistols 'n Petticoats", "87th Precinct", "The X-Files" and his final television role in 1997 on "Millennium".
He alternated between television and film work with some of his more well known film appearances being on such features as, "The Sword of Ali Baba" (1965) with Peter Mann, Jocelyn Lane, Frank McGrath and Peter Whitney, "Gunpoint" (1966) starring Audie Murphy, Joan Staley, Warren Stevens, Denver Pyle, Edgar Buchanan, Nick Dennis, Robert Pine, David Macklin and Royal Dano, "Cool Hand Luke" (1967) starring alongside Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Strother Martin, J.D. Cannon, Wayne Rogers, Jo Van Fleet, Dennis Hopper, Ralph Waite, Clifton James, Luke Askew, Anthony Zerbe, Joe Don Baker, Richard Davalos and Harry Dean Stanton, "Firecreek" (1968) starring James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Jacqueline Scott, Gary Lockwood, James Best, Inger Stevens, Dean Jagger, Ed Begley, John Qualen, Barbara Luna, Brooke Bundy, Jay C. Morgan Woodward has received a number of honors throughout his career in the industry such as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Art Council, an International Star Award and a Golden Boot Award from the Hollywood Motion Picture and Television Fund. He is retired from acting but remains living in California owning homes in both Los Angeles as well as Paso Robles. He is still an active member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Screen Actors' Guild, and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and a life member of the Actors' Fund.
