MIKE MAZURKI BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Mike Mazurki was born on December 25th, 1907 in Tarnpol, Galicia, Austria-Hungary, now the Ukraine with the birth name Michail Mazuruski. At the age of six, his family relocated to New York and he attended La Salle Institute High School.
During his early years he excelled in such sports as football and wresting graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later, he decided to embark on a career in the entertainment industry.
For the next fifty years he graced the big screen mostly portraying characters or bullies, thugs and gangsters. He was first discovered by Josef von Sternberg, an Austrian-American film director and was cast in the film, "The Shanghai Gesture" (1941). Soon he was being seen on the big screen in such features as, "Gentleman Jim" (1942), "About Face" (1942), "Murder, My Sweet" (1944), "Dick Tracy" (1945), "Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Hollywood" (1945), "Samson and Delilah" (1949) starring Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr, "Night and the City" (1950), "It's a Mad Mad Mad World" (1963), "Donovan's Reef" (1963) starring John Wayne and Lee Marvin and "The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin" (1967).
As his career progressed, roles began to become less available to him and he slowed down, although continued to make occasional appearances with some of his latest being on the films, "Alligator" (1980), "…All the Marbles" (1981), "Doin' Time" (1985), "Amazon Women on the Moon" (1987) and "Dick Tracy" (1990).
Mazurki also appeared on numerous television series throughout his career, some of which included, "My Friend Flicka", "I Dream of Jeanie", "Gunsmoke", "Bonanza", "Perry Mason", "Daniel Boone" and "Gilligan's Island".
In addition to be recognized as a talented actor, he was also recognized for his contribution to the wrestling industry. He co-founded the Cauliflower Alley Club which he also became President of in 1965. Then in 2005, he was awarded the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame's New York State Award. This award was given to individuals who made a significant contribution to the sport of Professional Wrestling.
Mike Mazurki married three times throughout his lifetime. His first marriage did not last very long. He then married Jeanette Briggs in 1943 and they had two children before the marriage came to an end in 1950. He then married his third wife, Sylvia Weinblatt in 1968 and they remained together until he passed away at the age of eighty three he passed away on December 9th, 1990 in Glendale, California.
