Michael Douglas ACTOR

Michael Douglas was born on September 25th, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey with the middle name Kirk to parents Kirk and Diana Douglas.  As the age of six his parents divorced and he went to live with his mother and her new husband.
Douglas attended school at Eaglebrook in Deerfield, Massachusetts and decided from an early age that he was interested in acting.  He asked his father for help who discouraged him and any of his siblings from pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.
However, Douglas did not take his fathers advice and he chose to try and find work as an actor. He did everything in his power to not be known as the next, 'Kirk Douglas' like his father, so he instead chose roles opposite of what his father would normally portray so he could establish himself as his own person.
Douglas also managed to earn a degree from the University of Santa Barbara in 1968.
He began first working as a television actor and his real break into the industry was his role on the series, "The Streets of San Francisco" (1972) co-starring with Karl Malden.  He then left this job to see what it was like to work on the other side of the industry as a producer with his first gig being, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975).
Douglas did not limit himself to any specific type of genre on film or television.  He even gave comedy a try and took on some roles in such films as, "Romancing the Stone" (1984), "The Jewel of the Nile" (1985), "The War of the Roses" (1989) and one of his most famous roles, "Basic Instinct" (1992) co-starring Glenn Close, which was actually considered a thriller film with a lot of violence and sexually explicit.  Some of his other well known roles were on such films as "Wall Street" (1987), "The American President" (1995) and "The Ghost and the Darkness" (1996).
Up to this point his career has been quite successful although he does keep dealing with the fact that he gets typecast roles.  He has tried to break away from that by taking on a variety of projects ranging from comedies such as, "Wonder Boys" (2000) to his newest piece of work scheduled to release in 2013, "Liberace".
Michael Douglas has married twice, first to Diandra in 1977 and they had one child together before divorcing in 2000.  His second marriage was to another female actress, twenty five years his junior, Catherine Zeta-Jones whom he wed in 2000 and they are still married presently with two children.
Along with a successful acting career he has also managed to be involved in other issues such as being named a United Nations Messenger of Peace with his mission being to focus worldwide attention on nuclear disarmament and human rights.  He was also ranked # 74 in Empire magazine's, "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list.  He was nominated for the 2011 New Jersey Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Arts and Entertainment.
