MICHAEL CONSTANTINE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Michael Constantine was born on May 22nd, 1927 in Reading, Pennsylvania with the birth name Constantine Joanides, born to Andromache Efstratiou and Theoharis Ioannides who both immigrated to the United States from Greece.
Constantine first began his involvement in acting by working as a stage actor in New York as an understudy. He then began working on Broadway with some of his stage credits being, "Inherit the Wind", "Compulsion", "The Miracle Worker" and "The Egg".
Along with doing stage work he auditioned for other roles on film and television. His first film role was in 1959 in, "The Last Mile" followed by small roles in, "The Hustler" (1961) starring Paul Newman and appearances on such television series as, "The Eleventh Hour" (1963), "77 Sunset Strip" (1963), "Twilight Zone" (1964), "Naked City" (1962), "Dr. Kildare" (1962), "Ben Casey" (1962), "Perry Mason" (1964-1965), "Death Valley Days" (1965-1966), "Hogan's Heroes" (1966), "My Favorite Martian" (1965-1966) and then he was cast in 1969 as a regular on the series, "Room 222", a role for which he won a 1970 Emmy Award as Best Supporting Actor. He also earned a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for his role on the series, "Sirota's Court" (1976).
Over he course of his career he added to his resume credits for his roles in the films, "Don't Drink the Water" (1969), "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium" (1969), "The North Avenue Irregulars" (1979), "Prancer" (1989), "Thinner" (1996) and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" (2002).
More recently he has been seen on the television series," My Big Fat Greek Life" (2003), "Cold Case" (2007) and "The Crossroads with Martin Anthony" (2009).
He has married twice, first to Julianna Mccarthy whom he wed in 1953 and they had two children before the marriage ended in divorce in 1972. He then married Kathleen Christopher in 1974 and this marriage also came to an end in 1980.
Michael Constantine has not re-married and remains working in the industry with his latest role appearing in the short, "Location! Location!" (2010).
