MICHAEL CALLAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Michael Callan was born on November 22nd, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Martin Calinieff. At the age of eleven he was already enrolled in voice and dance lessons.
When he got older he began working in entertainment, first as a comic and dancer in various night clubs and soon even had the chance to perform in Las Vegas on occasion.
Callan then decided if he was really going to pursue a career in entertainment he better relocate to the city where it all happens, New York City. He was given a dance part in a Broadway production called, "The Boyfriend" (1954) followed by roles in, "Catch a Star" (1955) and his biggest role in "West Side Story" (1957).
It was not difficult for him to break into the film industry, however he was not cast using his singing or dancing talent, but instead as a dramatic leading man in such films as, "They Came to Cordura" (1959) starring Gary Cooper and "The Flying Fontaines" (1959). He signed a contract with Columbia which made him miss out on a big film role for, "West Side Story" (1965), however his film roles continued in such films as, "Because They're Young" (1960), "13 West Street" (1962), "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" (1961) and "Bon Voyage!" (1962).
As his career progressed, he did not slow down and could be seen in more successful film roles such as, "The Interns" (1962), "The New Interns" (1964), "Pepe" (1960), "The Victors" (1963), "Mysterious Island" (1961), "Cat Ballou" (1965) and "You Must Be Joking" (1965).
Along with his film career he was also a successful television actor appearing on such series as, "Occasional Wife" (1966), "That Girl", "Hazel", "Mary Tyler Moore", "Love, American Style", "Fantasy Island", "Love Boat" and "Murder, She Wrote".
He was also given the chance to star and produce his own film, "Double Exposure" (1983). His latest role was in the film, "The Still Life" (2007). He now resides in California so he can live close to his two daughters, Dawn and Rebecca from his 2nd marriage to Carlyn Chapman. He was married first to Karen Malouf briefly and then after his marriage to Chapman ended in 1967 he married Patricia Harty in 1967 but this marriage too, ended in divorce.
