Meg Ryan ACTOR


Meg Ryan was born on November 19th, 1961 in Fairfield, Connecticut with the birth name Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra.  After graduating from Bethel High School she went on to relocate to New York City, New York at attended New York University majoring in journalism.  
She also found work part time acting to help support herself and took on the stage name Meg Ryan. Her mother had worked in the industry on a number of commercials and encouraged her daughter to pursue a career as an actress.  Only one semester before graduating, Ryan decided to give acting her full attention and dropped out of College
Her film debut was in 1981 in, "Rich and Famous" and followed this role with working on the television soap opera, "As the World Turns" (1982-1984).  Soon she relocated west and was cast in the series, "Wildside" (1985) and finally got the biggest role in her career alongside Tom Cruise in, "Top Gun" (1986).
Finally, Ryan had caught the attention of Hollywood and soon she was taking on more challenging and successful film roles such as, "Innerspace" (1987), "D.O.A." (1988) and "When Harry Met Sally…" (1989) where she was nominated for both a Golden Globe but also an BAFTA Award. 
As her career progressed, Ryan worked with a number of other successful actors such as Tom Hanks in the film, "Joe Versus the Volcano" (1990) and again with Tom Cruise in, "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993), again earning another nomination for a Golden Globe. 
To avoid being type cast as the 'sweet, innocent' role all the time she took on a challenging film role in 1994 in, "When a Man Loves a Woman" as an alcohol addicted wife.
Some of her more recent roles have been in, "I.Q" (1994), "French Kiss" (1995), "You've Got Mail" (1998) with actor, Tom Hanks again, "Against the Ropes" (2004), "The Deal" (2008), "The Women" (2008) and "Serious Moonlight" (2009). 
She has also appeared on the HBO television series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and the drama, "Lives of the Saints" (2010). 
Ryan was voted by People's magazine as, "The 50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 1994 and was ranked #57 in Premier magazine's, "The 100 Most Powerful People in Hollywood" in 1999. 
Throughout her career she has turned down a number of film roles that ended up being very successful films such as in, "Basic Instinct" which went to Sharon Stone, Molly in "Ghost" which went to Demi Moore, Vivian in, "Pretty Woman" which went to Julia Roberts and the role of, Clarice Starling in the film, "Silence of the Lamb" (1991) which went to Jodie Foster.
Meg Ryan has only married once to Dennis Quaid in 1991 and they had one son, Henry, before this marriage ended in 2001.  She has had other relationships with such actors as, John Cusack, Russell Crowe and Matt Dillon.  It is rumored that she is currently in a relationship with musician, John Mellencamp who has publicly announced that after his marriage to Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, he is divorcing after eighteen years.
