MARTIN LANDAU BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Martin Landau was born on June 20th, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and is in Oscar winning character actor. He first began working at the age of seventeen when he was hired by the New York Daily News staff to work as a cartoonist and illustrator. He always had the intention if growing up and working as an actor so after five years working as a cartoonist he decided it was time to make the career switch.
He first began as a stage actor making his debut in 1951 on "Detective Story" and then made his first off Broadway appearance that same year in "First Love".
When Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio held open auditions he was one of 2000 applicants in 1955 and only two actors were accepted, Steve McQueen and Landau. He soon began getting work on television on such shows as, "Playhouse 90" (1956), "Studio One in Hollywood" (1948), "The Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse" (1948), "Kraft Theatre" (1947), "GoodYear Playhouse" (1951), "Omnibus" (1952), "The Lawless Years" (1959), "Wagon Train" (1960), ""Checkmate" (1960), "Bonanza" (1961) and "The Rifleman" (1961).
Along with a very decent resume as a television actor he did not neglect his love of stage acting and made quite a name for himself on such Broadway productions as, "Middle of the Night" (1957).
Soon he left New York for a chance at the film industry in Hollywood. His film debut was on, "Pork Chop Hill" (1959) Starring alongside Gregory Peck, George Peppard, Harry Guardino, Rip Torn, Robert Blake, Norman Fell, Gavin MacLeod, Harry Dean Stanton, Carl Benton Reid, Bob Steele and Woody Strode, followed by Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" (1959) starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Jessie Royce Landis, Leo G. After he made an appearance on two episodes of "The Outer Limits" (1963) he got the role that brought him to a whole new level of fame on "Mission: Impossible" (1966) when he was cast as a regular and received numerous Emmy nominations as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for all three seasons in which he made appearances. This was followed by a win of the Golden Globe Award as Best Male Television Star.
Some of his later work were roles in the film, "They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!" (1970) starring Sidney Poitier, Barbara McNair, Anthony Zerbe, Jeff Corey and Edward Asner, the television movie, "Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol" (1972) and the Science Fiction series, "Space: 1999" (1975).

His career continued with winning numerous Golden Globe Awards and another Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Woody Allen's, "Crimes and Misdemeanors" (1989). He never let his fans down as each performance continued to outdo his last and he continued to earn incredible reviews and more viewers watching for his next career move. Again, he received his fourth Emmy nomination in 2004 for the Drama series, "Without a Trace" (2002).
He married only once to Barbara Bain on January 31st, 1957 and they had two children before ending the union in 1993. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.
