MARJORIE REYNOLDS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Marjorie Reynolds was born on August 12th, 1917 in Buhl, Idaho with the birth name Marjorie Goodspeed. Her father was a doctor and her mother a homemaker. She was raised the majority of her youth in Los Angeles, California and actually made her film debut at the age of six in, "Trilby" (1923). However after working as a child actor appearing in a number of silents being credited under her real name, she retired for a bit to pursue a formal education.
As a teenager, Marjorie returned back to the industry working as an extra. She also worked as a dancer in the early 30's on a variety of films for Paramount Pictures.
Her first speaking role was in 1937 on the film, "Murder in Greenwich Village" followed by a role in, "Gone With the Wind" (1939) starring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, Hattie McDaniel, Thomas Mitchell, George Reeves, Rand Brooks and Butterfly McQueen and soon winning the top female role in the film, "Holiday Inn" (1942) starring with Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Virginia Dale and Walter Abel, which even today remains as her most popular role. This film role followed with a number of appearances on 'B' rated films such as, "Up in Mabel's Room" (1944) also starring Jack Oakie, Dennis O'Keefe, Charlotte Greenwood, Mischa Auer and Gail Patrick, "Meet Me on Broadway" (1946) and "Heaven Only Knows" (1947).
Along with her film career, she did work as a television actress appearing on, "The Life of Riley" (1953) starring William Bendix and "Leave it to Beaver" (1960-1963). She also did occasional guest spots and some commercial work. Throughout her career she appeared in more then seventy films.
Marjorie Reynolds married twice, first to a casting director by the name of, Jack Reynolds from 1936 through 1952 and they had a daughter, Linda who started out working as an actress but later moved in to the other side of the industry working as a casting director. Her second marriage was to John Whitney who had also briefly worked as an actor. They remained together from 1953 through his death in 1985.
She retired from acting in the late 70's and after losing her husband in 1985, she did not remarry again. On February 1st, 1997 she had been suffering from congestive heart disease for quite some time and collapsed and died in Manhattan Beach, California at the age of seventy nine. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
