Marjorie Lord ACTOR

Marjorie Lord was born on July 26th, 1918 in San Francisco, California with the birth name Marjorie Wollenberg.  At the age of fifteen, her family relocated to New York City.  She began taking acting and dancing lessons at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Chaliff School of Dance.
Soon Lord was appearing on Broadway in "The Old Maid" when she was only eighteen years old.  After a little more stage experience RKO Pictures took notice of her and offered her a number of film roles such as in, "Border CafĂ©" (1937) and "Forty Naughty Girls" (1937).  She was then offered a contract from Universal Pictures and would continue to take on film roles as well as still appearing in a number of stage productions.  In total she appeared in six films with Universal.
Some of her later film roles were on "Johnny Come Lately" (1943) and "Sherlock Holmes in Washington" (1943).  She also began making a number of television appearances on such series as "The Danny Thomas Show" (1953), "The Adventures of Kit Carson", "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) and in 1966 she played, Martha Meade, who was the wife of Bob Hope in, "Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number!".
Lord then for the most part retired from the industry, but did return for a role on the sitcom, "Sweet Surrender" (1987).  She also published her memoir in 2005 titled, "A Dance and a Hug".  She had three failed marriages.  First to John Archer from 1941 through 1953 and they had two children together.  Her second husband was Randolph Hale from 1958 through 1974 when he passed away.  She then married her third and final husband, Harry Volk on 1976 and again this marriage lasted until she lost her third husband on May 12th, 2000.
