MARION ROSS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Marion Ross was born on October 25th, 1928 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, born with the birth name Marian Ross to Ellen Hamilton and Gordon Ross. She is most remembered for her role on the highly popular television sitcom, "Happy Days". As a young girl, she dreamed of pursuing a career as an actress.
During her teenage years, her family relocated to San Diego, California and after graduating from Point Loma High School, Ross went on to study drama at San Diego State University and earned a drama degree in 1950.
Already with some stage experience from her college years, she began performing around San Diego and even appeared on at the Old Globe Theatre. A College professor helped her become involved with Hollywood and Paramount Studio's soon signed Ross to a contract.
She began adding such film roles to her resume as, "Forever Female" (1953) starring Ginger Rogers and William Holden, "The Glenn Miller Story" (1954) starring James Stewart, June Allyson, Harry Morgan, Charles Drake, George Tobias, Nino Tempo, Sig Ruman and Barton MacLane, "Secret of the Incas" (1954) starring Charlton Heston, Robert Young, Glenda Farrell, Thomas Mitchell, Nicole Maurey and Yma Sumac as Kori-Tika, "Sabrina" (1954) starring Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, John Williams, Martha Hyer and William Holden, "Pushover" (1954) starring Fred MacMurray, Philip Carey, Dorothy Malone, Paul Richards, E.G. Marshall and Kim Novak , "Lust for Life" (1956) starring Kirk Douglas, James Donald, Everett Sloane, Henry Daniell and Anthony Quinn, "The Proud and Profane" (1956) starring William Holden and Deborah Kerr, with Thelma Ritter, Dewey Martin, Adam Williams, Ross Bagdasarian and William Redfield, "Lizzie" (1957) co-starring Eleanor Parker, Richard Boone, Hugo Haas, Dorothy Arnold, Johnny Mathis and Joan Blondell, "Teacher's Pet" (1958) starring Clark Gable, Doris Day, Nick Adams, Gig Young and Mamie Van Doren and "Operation Petticoat" (1959) starring alongside Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Gavin MacLeod, Dick Sargent, Arthur O'Connell, Dina Merrill, Gene Evans, Virginia Gregg, Robert F. Ross also returned to stage acting and appeared on Broadway in the production, "Edwin Booth". Along with stage and film, she then turned her focus towards television work. Some of her early television roles included, "The Lone Ranger", "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show", "Zane Grey Theatre", "The Loretta Young Show", "Rawhide", "Route 66", "The Outer Limits", "Felony Squad", "The Brady Bunch", "Perry Mason", "M Squad" and "Death Valley Days".
Her career finally took a major upward turn when she was cast in the series, "Happy Days" (1974), portraying Marion Cunningham. For this role she was honored with two Emmy Award nominations.
Finally, she had been given the chance to prove herself to Hollywood and continued making appearances on other television series such as, "The Love Boat", "MacGyver", "Burke's Law" and "Night Court".
Along with her television success came more film work. The highly successful Academy Award winning film, "Terms of Endearment" (1983) starring Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger, Danny DeVito, Jeff Daniels, John Lithgow, David Wohl, Mary Kay Place and Jack Nicholson, "Grand Theft Auto" (1977) Ron Howard's directorial debut and features himself as Sam Freeman and Nancy Morgan as Paula Powers with Paul Linke, Peter Isacksen, Don Steele, Clint Howard, Elizabeth Rogers, Jack Perkins, Garry Marshall, Paul Bartel, Rance Howard, Barry Cahill and Leo Rossi, "Music Within" (2007) starring Ron Livingston, Melissa George, Hector Elizondo, Rebecca De Mornay, Leslie Nielsen, Ridge Canipe, Paul Michael and Yul Vazquez and Michael Sheen and "Superhero Movie" (2008) starring Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald, Pamela Anderson, Regina Hall, Robert Joy, Brent Spiner, Kevin Hart, Jeffrey Tambor, Ryan Hansen, Charlene Tilton and Leslie Nielsen.
Ross has also maintained her love for stage performing throughout her entire career. Other more recent stage roles include, "Arsenic and Old Lace", "Steel Magnolias", "Long Day's Journey Into Night", "Pippin", "The Glass Menagerie" and "Barefoot in the Park".
Most recent work includes voice over work on the animated television series, "Sponge Bob SquarePants" and a recurring role on the television series, "Handy Manny". Also, currently in post production are her two latest film appearances set to release in 2013, "A Reason" and "Heebie Jeebies".
Marion Ross has been married only once to Freeman Herman Meskiman Jr. from 1950 through 1968 and together they had two children. She did not re-marry but lived with her long time partner, actor Paul Michael until he passed away in 2011.
