LUKE ASKEW BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Luke Askew was born on March 26th, 1932 in Macon, Georgia. His interest in acting first developed in high school. After earning his high school diploma he enrolled at the University of Georgia, originally intending on pursuing a degree in Business Administration, but later chose acting instead.
He then went on to serve in the United States Air Force while still enrolled in College and after college, he found work as a radio deejay and then a television announcer. Soon he was working as a stage actor and in 1966, relocated to Los Angeles, California in pursuit of a career in films.
He made his film debut in, "Hurry Sundown" (1967) and followed with roles in such films as, "Cool Hand Luke" (1967) starring alongside Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Strother Martin, Morgan Woodward, Dennis Hopper, J.D. Cannon, Wayne Rogers, Richard Davalos, Joe Don Baker, Clifton James, Anthony Zerbe, Ralph Waite, Jo Van Fleet and Harry Dean Stanton, "The Green Berets" (1968) starring John Wayne, Aldo Ray, Jim Hutton, David Janssen, "Easy Rider" (1969) starring Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and "The Magnificent Seven Ride" 91972).
Along with experience as a stage and film actor, he also appeared on numerous television series over the course of his career such as, "Bonanza", "T.J. Hooker", "L.A. Law", "High Chaparral", "Walker, Texas Ranger", "The Six Million Dollar Man" and a recurring role on the HBO series, "Big Love".
Most recent television roles include, "Everwood", "4400" and "Cold Case". In 2010, he retired from acting and moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon where he passed away on March 29th, 2012 after suffering from lung cancer at the age of eighty. He was survived by his only wife and one son, Christopher.
