LES TREMAYNE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Les Tremayne was born on April 16th, 1913 in London, England with the birth name Lester Tremayne. His mother, Dolly Tremayne was a working actress and when he was just four years old, his family relocated to the United States, settling in Chicago.
His career in entertainment began with performing at a local community theater and also performing in vaudeville. Soon as a young teenager, he was adding a number of radio programs to his resume such as, "The First Nighter, "The Adventures of the Thin Man", "The Romance of Helen Trent", "The Falcon" and "The Abbott Mysteries". Between 1930 and 1940, he appeared on over 45 old-time radio shows and in 1995 he was elected to the Radio Hall of Fame.
Along with working Radio, he made quite a name for himself as a stage actor and appeared in a variety of successful Broadway productions such as, "Detective Story".
He later also had a breakfast talk show called, "The Tremaynes" with his second wife, Alice Reinhardt. Other television appearances included, "Perry Mason", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "77 Sunset Strip", "The Rifleman", "Checkmate", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin", "M Squad", "Make Room for Daddy", "The Jack Benny Program", "Rescue 8", "The Court of Last Resort", "Mister Ed", "General Hospital", "Mr. Novak", "The Dakotas" and "Shazam!".
His took on the occasional film role as well with some of his more well known credits being in, "The Racket" (1951) starring Robert Mitchum, Lizabeth Scott, Robert Ryan, Max Wagner, William Conrad, Virginia Huston, William Talman and Ray Collins, H. G. Wells' "The War of the Worlds" (1953) co-starring Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Paul Frees, Jack Kruschen, Cedrick Hardwicke, Henry Brandon and Bob Cornthwaite, "A Man Called Peter" (1955) starring Richard Todd, Jean Peters, Billy Chapin, Jill Esmond and Marjorie Rambeau and Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" (1959) starring alongside Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, Martin Landau, Philip Ober, Edward Platt, Jessie Royce Landis, Leo G. Carroll, Josephine Hutchinson, Patrick McVey and James Mason.
Les Tremayne married a total of four times throughout his lifetime. His first wife was Eileen Palmer whom he wed in 1940. When this marriage ended he married briefly to Alice Reinheart. His third wife was Ruth Ann Mills from 1963 through 1967. His fourth and final wife was Joan L. Hertz in 1980 and they remained together until he passed away at the age of ninety on December 19th, 2003 in Santa Monica, California after suffering from heart failure. His remains were entombed in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
