LAWRENCE DOBKIN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Lawrence Dobkin was born on September 16th, 1919 in New York City, New York. His career in the industry lasted seven decades working not only as an actor but also a screenwriter as well as a director.
He began by working in radio to help pay for his college education at Yale University School of Drama. He also took on some Broadway stage roles and later took a brief break from acting to serve with the United States Air Force during World War II.
After completing his military service he returned back to working on the radio and played, detective Archie on the radio program, "The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe" (1950-1951). Over the course of his radio career he also appeared on the programs, "Escape", "Gunsmoke", "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" and "Lux Radio Theater".
Some of his more well known film roles included, "Never Fear" (1949) co-starring Keefe Brasselle, Hugh O'Brian, Eve Miller and Sally Forrest, "Twelve O'Clock High" (1949) starring alongside Gregory Peck, Hugh Marlowe, Gary Merrill, Millard Mitchell, Kenneth Tobey, Paul Picerni, Barry Jones, Harry Lauter, Richard Anderson, and Dean Jagger, the film noir "D.O.A." In addition to his work as an actor he wrote for the NBC series, "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams", "Klondike", "The Rifleman", "Passport to Danger", "Space Patrol", "The Loretta Young Show", "Mr. and Mrs. North", "The Lineup", "Man With a Camera", "The Ann Sothern Show" and "The Detectives". He also directed for such series as, "The Munsters", "The Waltons", "Star Trek", "B.A.D. Cats", "Dynasty", "Fantasy Island", "The Fall Guy" and "Fame".
Lawrence Dobkin married a total of three different times. First to Frances Hope Walker in 1942 and after having one child this marriage came to an end in 1960. He then married Joanna Barnes in 1961 however by 1967, another marriage ended in divorce. His third wife was Anne Collings whom he wed in 1972 and they had three children together and remained married until he passed away on October 28th, 2002 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from heart failure. His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea.
