LARRY FINE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Larry Fine was born on October 5th, 1902 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Louis Feinberg to parents Joseph Feinberg and Fanny Lieberman. As a young boy he was already involved in entertainment by taking Violin lessons and playing for audiences. As he became a teenager he was making a living working as a professional singer and as a boxer.
When he turned eighteen years old he found work in vaudeville with the, "Haney Sisters and Fine" (1925) and soon after joined what became known as, "The Three Stooges" with Ted Healy and Moe Howard. Over 200 films were made as a team.
His character, Larry, normally portrayed very nutty behavior which actually resembled a lot of his own personality. Soon "The Three Stooges" were a huge hit on television in 1959 when Columbia Pictures released a batch of their films and opened up their popularity to a whole new group of audience members.
Outside of his professional life, he did have some personal downfalls. He was very addicted to gambling and as fast as he earned money he lost it. Back in 1957 when Columbia terminated The Three Stooges comedies he almost had to file bankruptcy.
Luckily, he was cast in 1970 on a new television series "Kook's Tour" which helped rebuild his financial security. However, when he suffered a stroke he retired from acting completely and moved into the Motion Picture House Retirement Community in Woodland Hills, California. He was paralyzed and lived the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Larry Fine married only one time to Mabel Haney whom he wed on January 22nd, 1926 and they had two children together and remained married until she passed away on May 30th, 1967. He did not marry again and less then ten years later on, January 24th, 1975 Fine passed away in Los Angeles, California after suffering from another stroke, this type it took his life. He is interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. His son John died on November 17th, 1961 in a car accident and his daughter passed away at the age of sixty from cancer in 1988.
The Three Stooges were honored in a number of ways. They were given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their contribution to the Motion picture Industry and in 2009, the association Alumni of Central High School in Philadelphia inducted Larry Fine into the School Hall of Fame.
