KIM BASINGER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Kim Basinger was born on December 8th, 1953 in Athens, Georgia with the birth name Kimila Ann Basinger. She had four siblings and was born into a family where both her parents had worked in the entertainment industry. Her father, Donald Wade, performed in a Big Band Jazz group and her mother, Anne performed as a water ballet dancer.
As a young girl she studied ballet and as she began to get older and blossom into a beautiful young lady, she entered a local beauty pageant and won the title of Athens Junior Miss and then went on to become Junior Miss Georgia. By 1969 she was cast in her first commercial for a shampoo products and soon Ford Modeling Agency took notice of her and offered her a modeling contract.
At the age of only twenty years old she had earned quite a name for herself in the modeling industry becoming a highly desired top model. While working as a model she also studied acting in New York at the neighborhood Playhouse as well as performed on the side singing at a number of local nightclubs.
By 1976 she decide to relocate to Los Angeles to further her career. She began appearing on such television series as, "Charlie's Angels" (1976), "Gemini Man" (1976) and McMillan & Wife" (1977). Then she began to break into the film industry with roles on such films as her first television movie, "Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold" (1978) followed by roles in, "Hard Country" (1981), "From Here to Eternity" (1979), "Never say Never Again" (1983), "The Man Who Loved Women" (1983) and "The Natural" (1984) starring Robert Redford, for which she earned her first Golden Globe nomination.
As her career progressed, Basinger was seen on the big screen in such features as, "Fool For Love" (1985), "Nine 1/2 Weeks" (1986), "No Mercy" (1986), "Blind Date" (1987), "Nadine" (1987), "My Stepmother Is an Alien" (1988), "Batman" (1989) and "L.A. Confidential" (1997) for which she won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film.
Some of her latest film roles have been in, "Dreamed of Africa" (2000), "8 Mile" (2002), "Cellular" (2004), "The Sentinel" (2006) and "The Informers" (2009). Soon to release are her latest projects in the films, "Fortune" (2011) and "The Precious One" (2012).
Along with her acting career she feels very strongly about animal rights and is very involved with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Kim has posed for a number of anti-fur campaigns for PETA and has contacted a number of fashion designers asking them to stop using fur in their clothing lines.
She also at one time chose to invest $20 million to establish a tourist attraction which included movie studios and a film festival in Georgia, however after having some financial difficulties she had to sell her location.
Kim has been married twice, first to Ron Snyder from 1980 through 1988. She then married actor, Alec Baldwin in 1993 and they had one child, Ireland Eliesse before divorcing in 2002.
She has been honored in a number of different ways throughout her career such as being chosen by Empire magazine as, "One of the 100 Sexiest Stars in Film History" in 1995.
