Kenneth Tobey was born on March 23rd, 1917 in Oakland, California with the first name Jesse.  After high school he enrolled at the University of California with the intentions of pursuing a career in law.  While in college he began showing an interest in acting and participated in a number of school productions.
Soon he went on to study at the New York's Neighborhood Playhouse and began his acting career as a stage actor doing off-Broadway as well as Broadway productions throughout the 1940's.
In 1943 he debuted in his first short film, "The Man on the Ferry" which soon followed with one of his most well known roles in Hollywood on a, "Hopalong Cassidy" western.  Soon he added such film credits to his resume in, "The Stratton Story" (1949) starring James Stewart, "The Thing from Another World" (1951), "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" (1953), "Rage at Dawn" (1955) starring Randolph Scott and "It Came from Beneath the Sea" (1956)".
Adding to his film credits were numerous television appearances on such shows as, "The Public Defender", "Lassie", "The Lone Ranger", "Bat Masterson", "Sheriff of Cochise", "Bonanza", "The Virginian", "Laramie", "Frontier", "Climax!", "The Loretta Young Show", "Telephone Time", "77 Sunset Strip", "Perry Mason", "I Spy", "Gunsmoke", "Ironside", "Gibbsville", "The Rockford Files", "Emergency!", "Night Court", "The Lone Wolf" and "L.A. Law".  He also at one point had his own television series called, "The Whirlybirds" in 1957 which was highly successful.
He returned back to the stage in 1964 to appear in a production of, "Golden Boy" which also had a very successful run.
Kenneth Tobey has married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Violet M. Coglan in 1951 but after one child this marriage ended in divorce.  He then married, June Hutton whom he remained with until she passed away in 1973.
