KATE WINSLET BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
 
Kate Winslet was born on October 5th, 1975 in Reading, Berkshire in England with the middle name Elizabeth.  Her parents were, Roger and Sally Bridges Winslet and both worked as stage actors and her grandparents ran a theater so she was quite accustomed to the show business way of life.  Kate had two sisters who also grew up to have careers as actresses and she also has one brother who chose not to pursue a career in entertainment. 
 
By the age of eleven she as already performing for audiences as a dancer in a commercial for Honey Monster cereal.  She was also enrolled in acting classes and throughout receiving her schooling she also performed in a number of stage productions as well as a couple small parts on television.
 
At the age of seventeen she was given the chance to work on the film, "Heavenly Creatures" (1994) followed by another film role in, "Sense and Sensibility" (1995) which earned her a British Academy Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
 
Kate had now earned a name for herself and continued to appear on the big screen in such films as, "Jude" (1996), "Hamlet" (1996) and then the role that brought her to a whole new level of stardom in the film, "Titanic" (1997) playing Rose DeWill Bukater with co star, Leonardo DiCaprio.  For this role she earned another Best Actress nomination.
 
She had now reached a level of stardom that she never thought possible and continued to work in the industry challenging herself with different roles in such independent films as, "Hideous Kinky" (1998) and "Holy Smoke" (1999).
 
As her career has progressed she has been seen on the big screen in such features as, "Quills" (2000), "Enigma" (2001), "The Life of David Gale" (2003) and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004) for which she received another Academy Award nomination for her performance.
 
Along with film roles she has also added voice over work to her resume with the animated film, "Christmas Carol: The Movie" (2001).  She also shared with her fans that she has a singing talent when she recorded the song, "What If" for the film.
 
Other film roles that have been added to her resume are, "Finding Neverland" (2004), "Match Point" (2005), "All the King's Men" (2006) and "Revolutionary Road" (2008) which at the time was directed by her husband, Sam Mendes and reunited her with her "Titanic" star, Leonardo DiCaprio
 
In 2008 she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film, "The Reader".  She has had up to this point been selected for six Academy Award nominations and this was her first one to take home.  Although she has quite a few less film roles than many other popular female actresses her age, she has always been selective as to which films she will work on.  She has accrued many other awards such as Screen Actor Guild Awards, British Academy of Film and Television Arts and has even been nominated twice for an Emmy Award for her work on television. 

Winslet continued to earn favorable reviews when she took on the part of a sacrificing mother in the HBO miniseries, "Mildred Pierce" for which she won an Emmy for her performance. 
 
Her latest film roles have been in, "Contagion" (2011), "Movie 43" scheduled to release in 2013 and it was recently announced she will star in the film "Labor Day".
 
She has married twice throughout her lifetime.  Her first husband was Jim Threapleton from 1998 through 2001 and they have one child together.  She then married director, Sam Mendes in 2003 and they also have one child together but have been separated since 2010 and he divorce has recently been finalized.     
 
Throughout her professional career, she has had to deal with the media like many other actresses on the issue of weight loss and gain.  She has always said, "she will not let Hollywood dictate her weight".
 
Along with still working as an actress, she makes time for her non-profit organization she founded called, The Golden Hat, which helps to eliminate the barriers of people who suffer from autism.
