JULIE BISHOP BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Julie Bishop was born on August 30th, 1914 in Denver, Colorado with the birth name Jacqueline Brown. Her career as an actress began as a child appearing in a number of silent films and many of them Laurel and Hardy films such as, "Any Old Port!" and "The Bohemian Girl".
Her family raised her in Texas but eventually due to her interest in pursuing a full time career as an actress she relocated to Los Angeles, California and by the early 1940's she was signed to a contract with Warner Brothers.
Some of her early film roles included, "Northern Pursuit" (1943) starring Errol Flynn, Tom Tully, Gene Lockhart, Monte Blue, John Ridgely and Helmut Dantine, "Action in the North Atlantic" (1943) starring Humphrey Bogart, Raymond Massey, Alan Hale Sr., Ruth Gordon, Dane Clark and Robert Mitchum in a bit part, "Cinderella Jones" (1946) starring Joan Leslie, Robert Alda, Edward Everett Horton, William Prince and Elisha Cook Jr., "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) starring John Wayne, John Agar, Forrest Tucker, Richard Jaeckel, Adele Mara, Wally Cassell, James Brown, Richard Webb and Arthur Franz, "The High and the Mighty" (1954) starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Robert Stack, Laraine Day, Jan Sterling, Robert Newton, Phil Harris, John Qualen, Paul Fix, David Brian, Sidney Blackmer, Paul Kelly, Regis Toomey, Douglas Fowley, William Schallert and Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer and "The Big Land" (1957) starring Alan Ladd, Virginia Mayo, John Qualen and Edmond O'Brien.
Along with working as a film actress, Bishop remained appearing in a number of stage productions as well such as, "Hamlet" and "The Merchant of Venice". Towards the end of her career, she mainly focused on television roles appearing on such series as, "My Hero", "Fireside Theatre", "TV Reader's Digest", "Warner Brothers Presents", "The Bob Cummings Show" and "Ethel Barrymore Theater".
Julie Bishop married three times throughout her lifetime, first to Walter Booth Brooks III from 1936 through 1939. She then married Clarence A. Shoop in 1944 and they had two children together and remained married until he passed away in 1968. Her third husband was William F. Bergin whom she wed in 1968 and they were married until she passed away on August 30th, 2001, her birthday at the age of eighty seven in Mendocino, California after suffering from pneumonia.
