JOHN VERNON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Vernon was born on February 24th, 1932 in Zehner, Canada with the birth name Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz, born to Adolf Agopsowicz, and wife Eleanore Krückel.
Vernon received his early years education at Banff School of Fine Arts and later also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He then began finding work as a stage actor and appeared on television as well as performing at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon in England.
By the mid 1950's he broke into the film industry and began with his film debut in, "1984" (1956) starring Edmond O'Brien, Donald Pleasence, Jan Sterling and Michael Redgrave, followed by roles on the television series, "Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans" starring John Hart and Lon Chaney Jr., "Folio" and "The Unforseen".
Now with some experience on his resume he began adding more substantial credits such as on the CBS television series, "A Cheap Bunch of Nice Flowers" and "Wojeck". Vernon then relocated to the United States in hopes of gaining real stardom as an actor.
Vernon then appeared on the film, "Point Blank" (1967) starring Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, Lloyd Bochner, Carroll O'Connor, Keenan Wynn, James Sikking, Michael Strong and Sharon Acker, "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here" (1969) starring Robert Redford, Katharine Ross, Robert Blake, Susan Clark, Charles McGraw, Ned Romero, Barry Sullivan, Shelly Novack and Charles Aidman, "Justine" (1969) starring Anouk Aimée, Dirk Bogarde, Michael Constantine, Robert Forster, Jack Albertson and Michael York, Alfred Hitchcock's spy thriller "Topaz" (1969) starring Frederick Stafford, Dany Robin, Claude Jade, Michel Subor, Karin Dor, Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret, John Forsythe, Roscoe Lee Browne and Per-Axel Arosenius, "Dirty Harry" (1971) starring Clint Eastwood, Harry Guardino, Andy Robinson and Reni Santoni, "Fear is the Key" (1972) co-starring Barry Newman, Suzy Kendall and Ben Kingsley and "Bail Out" (1989) co-starring David Hasselhoff, Linda Blair and Tony Brubaker.
In addition to his film and stage work he also continued working as a television actor adding such series credits to his resume as, "Bonanza", "Mannix", "Cool Million", "Men at Law", "Hawaii Five-O", "Felony Squad", "Search", "Wide World Mystery" and "Mission: Impossible".
Many remember him for his role in the 1978 film, "Animal House" also starring Tim Matheson, John Belushi, Karen Allen, Donald Sutherland, Tom Hulce, Verna Bloom, Cesare Danova and Kevin Bacon, as well as from the Walt Disney film, "Herbie Goes Bananas" (1980) starring alongside Cloris Leachman, Harvey Korman, Charles Martin Smith, Richard Jaeckel, Alex Rocco, Stephen Burns and Elyssa Davalos. Over the course of his career as an actor he appeared in over 150 film and television roles. Some of his latest appearances included the television series, "CBS Summer Playhouse", "Dark Justice", "Tales from the Crypt", "Doogie Howser, M.D" , "Matrix", "Acapulco H.E.A.T.", "Legend" and "Walker, Texas Ranger".
Not only was he a prolific film and television actor, he also had a very distinctive voice and did a number of voice over projects for such television series as, "Batman", "Fantastic Four", "Pinky and the Brain", "Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm", "Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man", "The Incredible Hulk" and a variety of video games as well.
John Vernon married only once to Nancy West and they had three children together before the marriage ended in divorce. He did not re-marry and on February 1st, 2005, Vernon passed away in Los Angeles, California after suffering complications from heart surgery and his remains were cremated.
