John Randolph ACTOR

John Randolph was born on June 1st, 1915 in New York City, New York with the birth name Emanuel Hirsch Cohen, born to Dorothy and Louis Cohen.  His father passed away when he was a young boy and he was raised by his mother and step father.  During his teenage years he began to develop an interest in acting and received his early training from Stella Adler.
After high school, Randolph served in the United States Army during World War II and  after he completed his military service, Randolph chose to focus on pursuing a full time career as an actor.  He began with doing some stage work and became one of the original members of the Actors' Studio.

Some of his early career roles included roles on the television series, "The Clock", "Kraft Theatre", "Treasury Men in Action", "The Web" and "Danger".  Along with television work he also appeared on the films, "The Naked City" (1948) starring Barry Fitzgerald, Howard Duff, Dorothy Hart, Ted de Corsia and Don Taylor and "Fourteen Hours" (1951) starring Richard Basehart, Paul Douglas, Barbara Bel Geddes, Agnes Moorehead, Robert Keith, Debra Paget, Howard Da Silva, Jeff Corey, James Millican, Martin Gabel, Frank Faylen and the screen debut of Grace Kelly and Jeffrey Hunter.

In addition to television and film, occasionally he would return to stage acting adding such productions to his credits, "The Sound of Music", "Paint Your Wagon", "The Visit" and on Broadway in, "Prelude to a Kiss" and "Broadway Bound".  For this role, he won the 1987 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play.
