JOHN GIELGUD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Gielgud was born on April 14th, 1904 in London, England with the birth name Arthur John Gielgud, born to Frank Gielgud, a stockbroker, and Kate Terry-Lewis Gielgud. He began his acting training at Lady Benson's Acting School and later at Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
He first began working as a stage actor and became very well known for his work in a number of Shakespeare productions. Then in 1924 he broke into the film industry debuting in, "Who Is the Man?" followed by roles in, "Secret Agent" (1936) co-strring Peter Lorre, Madeleine Carroll, Robert Young, Michael Redgrave and Lilli Palmer, "Julius Caesar" (1953) starring alongside Marlon Brando, James Mason, Louis Calhern, Edmond O'Brien, Greer Garson, Deborah Kerr, George Macready, Rhys Williams, Douglass Dumbrille, Lawrence Dobkin, Michael Ansara and John Lupton and "Richard III" (1955) starring Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson, Claire Bloom and Cedric Hardwicke.
Over the course of his career he has earned such honors as an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film, "Arthur" (1981) co-starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli, as well as an Academy Award nomination in 1964 for his role in the film, "Becket" starring with Richard Burton and Hume Cronyn. He was also a three time Tony Winner and received PETA's Humanitarian of the Year Award twice, in 1994 and 1999.

In addition to his acting career, he was also a published author with three novels, Early Stages (1932), Stage Directions (1963) and Distinguished Company (1972).
John Gielgud passed away from natural causes at the age of ninety six on May 21st, 2000 in England, United Kingdom and his remains were cremated.
Gielgud is one of the few entertainers who have won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award.
