JOHN CANDY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
John Candy was born on October 31st, 1950 in Toronto, Canada with the middle name Franklin. His parents were Sidney James and Evangeline Candy. After graduating from Neil McNeil High School he enrolled at a local community college and first developed an interest in acting while in school.
He began being cast in some small television roles in Canada and such films as, "Tunnel Vision" (1976) and "Find the Lady" (1976). Soon he joined a comedy group known as, "Second City" locally in Toronto and also appeared on a television show called, "SCTV" (1976) where he began to gain fans who appreciated his sense of humor.
Soon he worked his way into the film industry appearing on such feature films as, "1941" (1980), "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Stripes" (1981), "National Lampoon's Vacation" (1983), "Going Berserk" (1983), "Splash" (1984), "Spaceballs" (1987), "Plains, Trains & Automobiles" (1987), "The Great Outdoors" (1988), "Summer Rental" (1985) and "Uncle Buck" (1989).
Along with his acting career he was also given the chance to produce and star in the animated series, "Camp Candy" (1989). Other projects he was involved in producing were, "The Last Polka" (1985), "Who's Harry Crumb?" (1989) and "Hostage for a Day" (1994).
Prior to his passing, his more recent film credits included, "Nothing But Trouble" (1991), "JFK" (1991), "Rookie of the Year" (1993), "Home Alone" (1990), "Cool Runnings" (1993), "Wagon's East" (1994) and his final film role was in 1995 in, "Canadian Bacon" which was released after his death.
John married only once to Rosemary Margaret Hobor in 1979 and they had two children and remained married until he passed away on March 4th, 1994 in Durango, Mexico after suffering a fatal heart attack.
His remains are interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California. In 1998 he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame and there is a John Candy Visual Arts Studio at Neil McNeil Catholic High School dedicated in his honor.
