JOE SAWYER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Joe Sawyer was born on August 29th, 1906 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada with the birth name Joseph Sauers.
 
Joe Sawyer became a famous Canadian actor who over the period of his career appeared in over 200 films between 1930 and 1962.  Some of his more well known roles were in such television series as "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" which also aired on the radio and was also made into a film.  In total he appeared in 164 television episodes.  He also made numerous appearances on the series "Frontier Doctor", "Maverick", "Sugarfoot", 'Peter Gunn", "Surfside 6" and "Bat Masterson".
 
His career began when he left Canada and relocated to California in pursuit of a career as an actor.  He studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse and in 1931 he made his film debut on "New Adventures of Get Rich Quick Wallingford".  Over his career along with the television appearances some of his film roles included, "College Humor" (1933), "College Rhythm" (1934), "The Westerner" (1934), "The Informer" (1935), "Pride of the Marines" (1936), "Black Legion" (1937), "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940), "Sergeant York" (1941), "Gilda" (1946), "It Came From outer Space" (1953), "North to Alaska" (1960) and "How the West Was Won" (1962) amongst many others. 
 
Most of his early career was under contract to Hal Roach and he was mostly known as a comedic actor.  Many refer to him as the "Beefy Puffy Faced Actor from Canada". 
 
He was married twice, first to fellow actress Jeane Wood and he then married a lady by the name of June who passed away in 1960.  He never had any children and on April 21st, 1982 he died in Ashland, Oregon after suffering from liver cancer.
