JILL CLAYBURGH BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Jill Clayburgh was born on April 30th, 1944 in New York City, New York, born to Julia and Albert Clayburgh. She was born into a very wealthy family and received her early years education at such schools as, the Brearley School and Sarah Lawrence College.
While enrolled in the College, she began to develop an interest for acting and decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She first started out as a stage actress by joining the Charles Street Repertory Theater in Boston.
After gaining some experience there she made the big move to New York City and studied drama at the HB Studio in Greenwich Village. Soon she was appearing on Broadway in such productions as, "The Rothschild" and "Pippin".
By the early 1970's, Clayburgh had broken into the film industry and was appearing on the big screen in such features as, "Portnay's Complaint" (1972), "An Unmarried Woman" (1978), "Starting Over" (1979) a role for which she was nominated for an Academy Award and "I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can" (1982).
Her career lasted thirty years in the industry and she had a huge fan following, however as her career progressed she continued working but the roles were never to the level of her earlier career choices. She began to turn her focus towards television and made appearances on such series as, "Maude" and "The Rockford Files" (both 1974), "Ally McBeal" (1999-2001), "The Practice" (2004), "Nip/Tuck" (2004) and "Dirty Sexy Money" (2007-2009).
She also appeared in a variety of television movies such as, "Who Gets the Friends?" (1988), "Unspeakable Acts" (1990), "Trial: The Price of Passion" (1992), "Sins of the Mind" (1997) and "Crowned and Dangerous" (1997).
Although she had been diagnosed with leukemia, she continued to work in the industry up until her passing. Her final roles were in, "Love and Other Drugs" (2010) and "Bridesmaids" (2011). "Love and Other Drugs" was dedicated in her memory after she passed away on November 5th, 2010 in Lakeville, Connecticut after suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Her remains were cremated and her ashes left with her family.
She left behind her only husband, David Rabe whom she wed in 1979 and their two children, Michael and Lily Rabe.
