JEROME COWAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Jerome Cowan was born on October 6th, 1897 in New York City, New York with the birth name Jerome Palmer Cowan. Directly after earning his high school diploma he began finding work as a stage actor appearing with a variety of stock companies as well as performing burlesque.
He took a brief break from pursuing his career as an actor during World War I where he joined the United States Navy. Upon completing his service he returned to acting performing vaudeville.
In 1923 he first appeared in the Broadway production, "We've Got to Have Money". After gaining some more stage experience he began working in films. Some of his early film roles included, "Beloved Enemy" (1936) starring Merle Oberon, Brian Aherne, David Niven and Henry Stephenson, "There's Always a Woman" (1938) starring Joan Blondell, Mary Astor, Frances Drake, Robert Paige, Thurston Hall and Melvyn Douglas, "The Maltese Falcon" (1941) starring alongside Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Elisha Cook Jr., Gladys George, Barton MacLane, Ward Bond, John Hamilton and Walter Huston, "Crime by Night" (1944) with Jane Wyman, Faye Emerson and Eleanor Parker, "Mr. Skeffington" (1944) starring Bette Davis, Walter Abel, Richard Waring, Claude Rains and George Coulouris, "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) starring Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn, Porter Hall, Gene Lockhart, Thelma Ritter, Jack Albertson, Harry Antrim and William Frawley, "Riffraff" (1947) co-starring Pat O'Brien, Anne Jeffreys, Walter Slezak, Percy Kilbride and Jason Robards Sr. and "Have Rocket, Will Travel" (1959) starring Anna Lisa, The Three Stooges, Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Joe DeRita and "Frankie and Johnny" (1966) starring Elvis Presley, Donna Douglas, Harry Morgan, Sue Ane Langdon and Anthony Eisley.
After adding a number of the, "Blondie" (1957) series to his resume he turned his focus towards working as a television actor appearing in such series as, "Richard Diamond, Private Detective", "Perry Mason", "Make Room for Daddy", "The Munsters", "Fibber McGee and Molly", "Twilight Zone", "Naked City", "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show", "Outlaws", "77 Sunset Strip", "Bonanza", "Mr. and Mrs. North, "Daniel Boone", "Vacation Playhouse", "U. S. Marshal", "Here's Lucy","Telephone Time" and "Green Acres".
His final appearance was in the television series, "Alias Smith and Jones" in 1971. He died shortly after on January 24th, 1972 in Encino, California from natural causes and was survived by his only wife, Helen Dodge and their two children.
