JAMES GREGORY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
James Gregory was born on December 23rd, 1911 in the Bronx, New York City, New York and was raised in Rochelle, New York. During high school he was involved with the drama club and acted as president. He worked various jobs growing up ranging from a caddy, bus-boy, waiter, grocery clerk to a runner in 1929 on Wall Street and was going to pursue a career as a stock broker, but was also interested in acting as a career.
He ended up pursuing acting earning professional status as a summer stock player in 1935. Then in 1939, he made his Broadway debut in, "Key Largo" and for the next sixteen years he continued to work as a Broadway actor. He worked with a number of well known actors such as Paul Newman, Lloyd Bridges, Thomas Mitchell and Robert F. Simon to name a few.
During World War II, he took a break from acting to serve his country and joined the United States Navy and Marine Corps. In 1956, he moved from a career on stage in Broadway into the film industry. He also worked on Army training films such as, "The Atomic Cafe".
From 1959-1961, he starred in his own NBC series on a crime drama called, "The Lawless Years" and also appeared on, "PT 109" (1963) starring Cliff Robertson as John F. Kennedy and featured Ty Hardin, Robert Blake, Norman Fell and Robert Culp. He continued to work on films appearing in, "The Manchurian Candidate" (1962) starring Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey and television programs as "Twilight Zone", "Columbo" starring Peter Falk and "Gunsmoke". He is also known for playing Tantalus IV Penal Colony on the Star Trek Original Series episode, "Dagger of the Mind".
Gregory also applied his talents to radio and commercial work. His career has spanned over half a century. James lived with his beloved wife, Anne Gregory for the last fifty four years of his life in Sedona, Arizona.
James Gregory passed away on September 17th, 2002 in Sedona, Arizona of natural causes.
