JAMES BROWN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
James E. Brown was born on March 22nd, 1920 in the town of Desdemona, east of Abilene, Texas. Most of his educating years were spent in Waco, Texas. In his later years he was educated at Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas and he became involved in the glee club. For college he chose to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas
During High School he was very involved in tennis so following college he spent a brief time competing as a professional tennis player. He then decided it was time to pursue a different career and so, brown became involved in acting and earned quite a resume as an actor over the next four decades.
Some of his better known film roles were in such features as, "Wake Island" (1942), "Airforce' (1943), "Going My Way" (1944), "Objective, Burma!" (1945), "The Fabulous Texan" (1947), "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) with John Wayne, "Flight Nurse" (1953), "Five Guns to Tombstone" (1960) and "When the Clock Strikes" (1961) among others.
He is most well known for his role as Lieutenant Ripley, also known as 'Rip' Masters in the ABC Western series, "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" which aired from 1954 through 1959 and in total, Brown appeared in 166 episodes.
Along with a decent film resume and regular role on "Rin Tin Tin", James Brown also managed to fit in time for other guest star appearances on numerous television shows such as "Adventures of Superman" (1954), "Sky King", "The Lone Ranger", "Laramie" (1966), "The Virginian" (1962-1966) and he had the opportunity to work on the western sitcom, "The Rounders" (1966) with another recurring character role.
In his later years he made an appearance on, "Lassie", "Gunsmoke", "Starsky and Hutch" and portraying character, detective Harry McSween on the television series, "Dallas" that aired on CBS and Brown made an appearance in twenty seven "Dallas" episodes total.
James Brown passed away at the age of seventy two, from lung cancer on April 11th, 1992 in Woodland Hills, California. He was survived by his present wife, Betty and their three daughters, Wendy, Barbara and Carol.
